Up till now I had thought that scottish forces already had these. But I read in the Metro this morning that Grampian and Borders has just taken delivery of some fine new laser cameras that can apparently laser up to 1km away even in heavy traffic. These are aparently the first in Scotland. It must be true cos its in the Metro

So if you're out and about in the borders get a laser jammer. Now.
I must admit this will take the shine off the drive down to Maybe Forest Mountain biking centre. Some really nice roads as well.
Its all a bit depressing really. Up until now I had thought that most forces in Scotland took a reasonably sensible approach to speed enforecement but I reckon they are now going the way of the English. Tis a shame.

So anyway where did I leave my false plate and jammer anyhoo......

Alas not. Most forces if not all already have and use mobile laser devices attached to cameras. It's the number one weapon of choice on the A9 and A75.

The LTi 20/20 which is the 'old' laser works at 1km, the only problem is that the guidelines say that it should not be used for a check over 600m. This is because at any distance over 600m you are strugling a bit to 'form the oppinion that the vehicle is exceeding the speed limit' which is part of the evidence. So unless they change the rules of evidence nothing much has changed. Mind you anything that is lighter and smaller than the LTi 20/20 is a big improvement.

If they are anything like real guns, surely lighter & smaller means that they are harder to aim accurately?

Anyway, they may be getting new lasers in Scotland, but it looks like my Force sorry that should be service, we are no longer a force, won't be getting any. Quite the opposite in fact, all our traffic units have been told to hang up our lasers/radars etc and concentrate on reducing street crime. Good news eh. Or is it, reading between the lines it looks to me like the powers that be are going to start looking more towards automatic detection devices (GATSO ETC) to produce the stats for so called 'road safety'. The only problem with that is the little sh!*s that are banned, had no licence, no insurance etc that we used to target when we were out with the laser will get away because they never bother to register their cars. Watch this space!!!

Farewell traffic cops, welcome back Robocop. A victim of your own frailties perhaps. Robocop can't detect careless driving etc, but from the figures for prosecutions, neither does Human Cop. Robocop works 24/7 without overtime, Human Cop doesn't. Various figures are bandied about, the gist of which is that most folk involved in accidents could cause one in an empty car park, yet are never prosecuted, or even reported. Go for the easy target every time, speeders. Look on the bright side, all the walking the streets chasing the neds will bring back old times, like when most cops were fit enough to pass the entrance medical.

PS. Did you really mean to come on to the site and announce you weren't getting any !!! F'nar f'nar.
