Just read today ( in The Mail.. sorry ! ) that 'Police Chiefs' are asking for cameras to be hidden again !! After taking advantage of the cash for cameras scheme where by they can forces can keep the money raised by fines so long as amongst other things the cameras are highly visible they'd now rather hide them again, but still obviously keep the money. Inspector 'Ive got a Freddy Mercury tashe and dye my eyebrows' Collins ( his pic was in the paper) said 'Lets stop pussy footing around. There are 10 million speeding offences a day - or 3.65 billion a year' .. well surely if thats true and this results in even according to goverment figures 1200 ( though probably closer to 280 ) deaths then speeding is really rather safe?? or have I missed somthing here.

I hope they do try and do that - cos then the numpty public really WILL take matters into their own hands and destroy the feckers!

Is it about safety to revenue? Hiding them makes it revenue, in the open makes it safety.

I'd like to see his proof.

I like the assumption that we commit the same number of offences on Sundays and Christmas as we do on working days.

Exactly what I was thinking!!
they say the number of people caught by cameras has risen from thousands to milions or whatever.. accidents gone down?? don't think so..

to me that says that all those extra tickets went to people wo were speeding perfectly safely!!!

Well, traveling to work I probabaly break every speed limit, at some point or another (ie just over 40 on the entry to a 30 - thats an offence. So thats 22 seperate ones a day, just for me on a 50 mile round trip. How many commuters are there? Multiply that up, multiply by 10, then imagine the smile on plods face as he thinks of all that money coming into his coffers.

Then imagine the heartache he'd have the next month when the entire population comes round to his house and stones him to death cos they've all been banned for 6 months under totting up.

Their logic is fatally flawed and we WILL win out. Teh tide is turning.

or alternatively we shall just whinge about it on some internet forum and take it up the arse when they are dishing out more speeding tickets.

or why not join the ABD.

Well Dave, I have no problem with you bringing a selection of the finest British Steel but I must insist on either mace or hammer; there's a certain satisfaction in smiting the deceivers with a crushing blow rather than a rather meek, penetrative slashing action.

Personally I like a bit of penetrative action!!

But I share you're desire to use hand-crafted weapons of mass destruction against these dark satanic forces of communism.

Ithoght it had been proven that by making cameras more visible more people slowed down ?

Theres has been big studies on this on the contient.

Its like an unmarked car catches one speeder, but a marked car slows down everyone.

Couple of points here.

The yellow GATSOs turn in a proportion of their takings to the Police. All the other grey and blue ones go straight to the Treasury. Strange how the one's that made money for the Gov. didn't have to be made visible!

According to a local press report a few weeks back, there are some 54 traffic cameras in Lincolnshire, of which 20% have film in at any one time. So what's the point of hiding them, if 80% aren't going to catch anyone? Surely that 80% need to be visible deterents?

And, finally, if they slow motorists down, why are there almost none outside schools?
