Evening All! Just been recommended this forum for 'plod' news, and as i am a little concerned about the South Wales Police forces antics thought i'd post for the first time!

Anyone who is into rallying knows that its Rally GB time this week, watch out though, there will be more plod about than ever, apparently using mobile kit from other forces, and 2 new camers just gone up in the 50 limit on the M4.

I was nicked in mid Wales being silly in '98, again on the rally GB for doing 126 in a 60, on the wrong side of the road, so naughty that time, but been nicked in South Wales 3 more times, everytime no need really, last year fixed penalty on the M4 for doing a little over 80!

My detector is way out of date, anyone recommend (honestly) a new one? And at what cost?

Great forum chaps, well done, especially interested in the A303 thread, as i too live in Wiltshire.

All the best.

Geese.

get a Laser Blinder

No radar detector will pick it up quick enough. Its the ONLY defence.

Plods dont use mobile radar anymore.

Ok, so which one is the best? I know that you have probably heard all this before, but help an ametuer!

Looks like the LCR100, bit pricey at £350, so is it worth it, and is the fitting of all of it as easy as it sounds, is it a quality product? What i am looking for?

I have got an elderly detector, but its not much cop (sorry about the pun!) Can't afford to upgrade the detector and buy the LCR, so need to know if my money is heading in the right direction...

Thanks.

Geese!

There is a list of speed trap sites here
www.south-wales.police.uk/speedcameras/index.htm
Suspect its not much use to a lot of people and not up to date.

It has been discussed before and a conclusion was made that a 'lid' laser blinder was the best of the lot?????

Can anyone identify the best bit of kit for the job.

the best radar detector is the euro target 550, discounting the valentine for its herrendous cost.

The best GPS based device is almost certainly currently the road angel.

But i have little knowledge of laser blinders, out of interest how do they work? do they detect like normal laser detector and immediately fire back in fraction of a second or do they constantly emit.

and if they constantly fire laser does this explain why i get sudden laser alerts on the motorway for no reason because i'm detecting someones laser blinder.

probrably very stupid questions but most people i know have little knowledge of these devices.

I also thinking they are the next best purchase rather than getting a gps system, most people know where there local truvelo systems are and pay a lot more attention in areas where they dont. A nob end with a laser device could be lurking behind anything.

Thanks for that rs, personally i find that we live in a very good area for speed traps, ie; not many! Its the other aspects of driving i have a problem with and i am far from a 'boy', i have trouble with silly things, and i run a small transport business!

Pathetic plod.

Expecting the worse this weekend in wales, got to get the obove blinder i think, and quick!

Thanks to everyone, the blinder seems the only way to go, and before tonight knew nothing about them!

Geese , which part of the M4 has the 50 limit (any junction number).

I expect to see the mobile camera vans crewed up at Junction 23a (Magor Services) , recently seen them hide the vans behind hedges and have the 2 cameras out across the carriageway on the roundabout.

Another spot is a bridge about a mile or so further in towards Newport , again a mobile van with side door open.

These are the favoured spots to catch passing traffic for gwent.

Enjoy the rally and don't give them the satisfaction of catching more tourists.

How they work -

Laser blinders are passive scanning devices until they detect a laser gun.

Laser guns get your speed by firing pulsed laser at your vehicle. The return pulses then aid calculation at the speed of light which is why they can get your speed in 1/3 of a second.

The laser jammers, once detecting this, "fill in the blanks" of the pulses therefore confusing the laser gun. The gun has to verify the pulse coming back in order to get a legal speed conviction so if it cant verify it it cant get a speed.
