Im getting my front bumper repainted and was thinking about getting rid of the mounting and either running a smaller stick on plate or no plate at all.

How many do this?

Do you have any problems with plod?

I know the legalities of it so don’t bother telling me them.

Just real world stuff please.

Real world, you’ll garner a lot more attention from Plod.
If I saw 2 identical cars driving foolishly I’d be far more likely to stop the unplated one.

Unless you prop a number plate on the dash. Apparently...

For me not having a plate is asking for a stop and you'll have to solve the MoT problem. Having a stick on one is very unlikely to get any attention and probably doesn't get picked up in the MoT (mine didn't). So stick on for me

Just who thinks like this.

"Oh no my car will look soo unappealing with a white rectangle on the front".

Oh BTW make sure your rear one is a 4d plate wrapped in clingfilm. BOSS

Many have run no plates for months on end with no issue - it depends on whether you are in darkest Scotland, doing 500 miles a week on motorways, or cruising Bradford city centre every night.

Things may have changed, though. I seem to recall some on here noting a lot of known mis-spaced plates being fixed recently, so it is possible they are cracking down.

Not an endorsable offence (at the moment) either way, so if you are comfortable with a 100? 200? quid fine if caught, and that a personal plate might risk confiscation in a worst case scenario (e.g. if the rear one is mis-spaced and plod thinks you are taking the total piss tongue out ) and that you will be mocked by whiter-than-snow PH Directors who have never done a single thing wrong in their entire lives wink then you could proceed with the experiment.

Plenty have done plenty wrong and also been called out about it hehe

My best effort was being out on bail on two separate charges in the same week hehe

I wished I had somebody else to blame. Still, the £2,000,000 alleged fraud money came in handy. (And it was a long time ago, when £2m was still a lot of money hehe). The GBH charge didn't serve me well though biggrin

Really depends on OP’s choice of car.

Even the most hardened ‘must obey the law’ poster has to admit that there are some cars that don’t suit a front plate going back to the E type Jag and probably earlier.

I personally think cars just look wrong without a number plate, in the correct location. Obviously that largely due to the fact that 99.9% of cars conform to the regulations so its what I'm used to seeing. I find the offset positions, like on some Alfa Romeos look somewhat wrong too.

I had a 2008 Alfa GT for 6 months in 2021. Just the front number plate being off to one side made my teeth itch!
