I'm livid with Kent police. My very sensible 25 year old son was walking his new puppy in a public park when a staffie ran across the park and started attacking the puppy. The feckless owner and his girlfriend sauteed over and after a few words punches my son in the head: leaving a nasty cut and bruise. An older woman witnessed the attack and took photos of the attacker and his girlfriend. Reported to the police on the phone 2 weeks ago and absolutely nothing from them. He chased twice and either 'The officer dealing with it is "off shift" or "There's nothing we can do". So the upshot is that a thug can physically assault a stranger in a public park with absolutely no consequences. He can now keep on punching people with impunity. Just had to get that off my chest.

MPs can be useful in this situation, though it depends on the MP.

They should be charged with a fry.

I'd try MP as well, and do they have a complaints process? Especially with witness and photos.

I'd have thought that ABH would apply here

Yes, I'm encouraging him to make a formal complaint. I can just about understand non contact for minor theft type crimes, but not where someone is physically injured in an attack and there is a willing witness and photos. He was pretty shaken up and now avoids that park. It's highly likely that the thug lives in the estate bordering the park and would be easy to identify from the photos and a bit of door knocking.

Straight in with a complaint to the force.

Thug knows not to call people names, could really get into trouble for that kind of behaviour.

Your son will need to make the complaint as he is the person affected by the poor service. It should be easy to resolve once logged though.

That is absolutely shocking OP.

There are a number of serving police officers who contribute to this forum. They may be able to help with the best approach to get some proper action taken.

"All our officers are busy"
"They're mealing"
"Out on another call"
"Short handed"
"Can't find the original complaint "
"Can you supply a contact report number?"
"Do you use any social media?"

So, an update from my son this morning. He eventually managed to speak to the officer 'dealing' with his case yesterday (He had to chase her). The reason for the 2 week delay was because the call handler misspelt his email address and then the officer that it was assigned to was off shift, or something similar. He has been told that if he sends the pictures over to her, she will make enquiries and pass over to the local team 'In case they run across someone matching the description'. I realise that it must be a tough job, but something is broken when an innocent person makes a call to say that they have been injured in a daytime assault and literally nothing happens for at least 2 weeks. Rant over...

Email the OPCC (although their website will tell you not too, and that you should escalate with the Police themselves).

I work inside a Police force (civilian Analyst) and have contacted two different Police forces (neither 'mine') three times in about ten years. Each time the response has been dismal! Possibly my favourite was a Hate Crime reported online that they failed to even acknowledge!

I would be simmering if it was me. The perp should really be made to feel the heat.

Yep, too hard too difficult for the police they much prefer slam dunks. You could do some of the investigation work yourself - post the photos on FB to see if anyone recognises them.

If it was me, I definitely would try my best to find him. Son, girlfriend and puppy live a long way away and live in the same town as the thug so don't want to encourage future issues. There will always be moronic thugs but it's the lack of response from the police that makes my blood boil. I wonder at what point they would actually do something? "I've just been stabbed - ok let me take your email address and give us a call back in a couple of weeks if you don't hear anything". "I've just been shot" etc etc

I bet if the video was put on social media, the Police would be knocking on his door in an hour.

Nobody seems to want to do a good job anymore. There is no pride in working.
