It’s 22 years since I deployed them in the dark. So not new apart from the part of Middle-earth you inhabit perhaps

I have a fool proof way to avoid this “threat” it involves big numbers printed on circles at the side of the road and your speedometer.

Or don’t. But if you choose not to, don’t moan that it’s someone else’s fault if you get caught.

Way over his head though. He's all excited that speed limits exist after dark.

I remember hearing about them maybe 15 years ago when I was doing galactic mileage all over the country. I only stopped doing big mileage about 3 years ago and in all that time and miles I never saw one.

Figuring, probably wrongly, that they were not as rewarding financially as those deployed in daylight hours so that's why I never saw any. Maybe things have changed and they've started using them more regularly.

I might have agreed with that before so many speed limits were reduced to ridiculous levels.

I got pinged by a Cop with a Laser, in the dark and in the fog, 30 years ago!

He even stated he couldn't me initially, but he heard me coming. laugh

He Zapped the oncoming headlights and waved me in.

Pretty sure the kit they have now has Low Light vision now in the Safety Camera Vans.

Average Speed Cameras use IR, you see the red glow from the lamps on the poles.

Or people quite rightly challenge stupidity.

I'll hold my hand up, I didn't know that mobile speed cameras worked in the dark. (I'm not sure why I thought that, possibly because I've never seen any but regardless)

Quite tiresome on a motoring enthusiast forum of all places. "Speeding? On the road? What an idiot! I always go 2 under the limit to be sure!"

Why would anyone think a speed camera would use some form of light to detect how fast a car is travelling??

Tiresome indeed, there is no reason drivers shouldn’t use whatever speed they feel is appropriate or entertaining:

I think it's more the moaning about being caught by easily visible widely known about speed limits that's getting tiresome and on this occasion the shock from the OP that modern technology works at night.
