Insurance repair issues
Discussion
Hi all.
So following on from my other thread re. a recent accident I had, I have now had the car repaired & have collected it tonight. At first glance, everything looks ok with the repair but I've noticed a couple of things & just wondering if I'm being too fussy.
The first thing & the thing I'm most concerned with is they had the wheel alignment done & have given me the printout but it states the car is an M135i X-Drive but my car is a 2017 F21 M140i (rear wheel drive obviously) Not an expert on alignment but I imagine it will differ per model.
The other thing is they replaced a tyre, no idea why, pretty sure it was fine. It was a nearly new Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 6 & they've replaced with a Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport & the valve is also now leaking.
I always keep matching tyres per axle at the very least but this might be being too fussy.
Just wondered what people's thoughts/experiences are with insurance accident repairs?
Cheers,
Ben

I'd want an axle pair of tyres, pretty sure the advice from BMW is not to mix tread patterns so I'd be raising that but doing a bit more digging on the alignment question.
^^^^ Wot 'e said.If nothing else the tyre is definitely wrong, minimum full axle set.
Alignment could just be a typo, but needs confirming.

If the OEM instructions are matching pair, then you can definitely go back with that.
As for alignment - needs checking, if only to make sure they've set it within the correct tolerances - setting outside the tolerances could either make the handling 'interesting' or lead to premature tyre wear.
Update -
The garage have called me this morning & said they've confirmed the alignment was done correctly, the chap who did it just clicked the wrong one on the drop down when he did the print out. Will take their word for that as it definitely feels ok to drive, will just keep an extra eye on the tyre wear.
Re. the tyre, they had trouble getting hold of an Asymmetric 6 so had to go with what's available but have offered to either replace the other side with a SuperSport or I can wait for another Asymmetric 6 to come in, which is what I've gone for.
Can't complain at that, happy with the overall job they've done & happy with the update this morning.

Yes, but do you not think it would be nice if places do things like that, that they ASK first? The garage have called me this morning & said they've confirmed the alignment was done correctly, the chap who did it just clicked the wrong one on the drop down when he did the print out. If nothing else it shows common courtesy & due diligence.

Absolutely, would have saved some hassle. I guess they think a lot of customers don't even know how many tyres are on the car, never mind the make/model so perhaps they thought it wouldn't be noticedIf nothing else it shows common courtesy & due diligence.

And they're probably right.I mean...next time you're in a car park look at how many cars have Chinese (or equally s
t) tyres fitted - that's pretty telling about the attitude of the average owner towards tyres.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
