Pulled by the Rozzers at 1** mph.
Discussion
got pulled over myself yesterday, was doing about 1**+ in a 60!
Look on the coppers face was priceless
'do you know the speed limit'
'its a dual carriageway so its 70'
'no its 60 its a dual lane road not a dual carriageway'
'ok, never knew the difference'
'but we both know you werent doing anything like 70 even'
'no i was keeping an eye on my speedo and was doing exactly 60'
'see that man in the back of the car'
'yup'
'see the police man with him holding the laser gun'
'yup'
'well lets just say if you had been 5 minutes earlier it would be you in the back with him'
'well, thats assuming I had been found to be speeding by the radar gun he has on his lap, in the back of the car'
'thank you, please drive more safely sir'

Erm, isn't a dual lane road one with a lane going in either direction and a dual carriageway have 2 going in either direction. Either that or the difference is one has armco or some kind of separator down the middle the other doesn't...?

So here we are, a driver’s site I guess most us have read the H’Way Code and none of us have ever heard of a "Dual-Lane Road". So what does that tell you? I’ll tell you what, that it's some nonsense made up by the (traffic) police in order to trap more motorists. And why the heck were they set up their with hair-dryers anyway? Because it's an accident black spot eh? Or 'cos they just came up with "NEWSPEAK" for Dual Carriageway which allows them to turn a 70 stretch into 60 and wanted some more cash I ask you is it any wonder? R...

Yes. Now. 3pts later. Ar*e.
Example. Two lanes one way ("Dual Lane") single the other. Not a Dual Carriageway. Or for instance Dual Carriageway with a red 60 limit sign. Might be dual carriageway but unless its NSL with the black stripe its not necessarily 70mph.
Madcop would know the technical definition I'm sure. Me...I just got nicked (at 74! Aaaargh!).

The 70mph rule only applies on a duel carriage way if 2 components are present.
1) A central reservation
2) A national speed limit sign.
If none of these are present assume its 30mph until you see a sign telling you otherwise.
A lot of people fall foul of this when the dual section ends and it becomes a normal 2 way road - i.e they are doing 80mph in a 60mph limit.

Does the central reservation have to be a physical barrier, or does a 'ghost island' painted on the road count?

i) All I said was that I have personally never heard of a Dual-Lane Road, and as far as I can see neither have many others. I've read the book, seen the video even played the written-theory-test-PC-simulator-game (4 of my teenages passed their tests in the last few years so I'm quite up-to-date on all that) but I've never heard of one that's all - that's called stating a fact.
ii) Is saying something you don't agree with a "rant" Rich...
