My mate got a ticket for this off the council (white car).

Is this really enough for an enforcement?

Looks like it, as he got a ticket.

they were fully in the lane before the left arrow crossover so seems a fair collar.

Council's will always try it on, therefore every PCN should be challenged, even if seemingly bang to rights.

I've previously challenged a PCN in the same circumstances and got it overturned.

I've also previously posted on other threads on the same subject, and I'll try to find the info that I posted then.

I’d say definitely yes. The big problem with doing this is coming into conflict with people who are waiting for the correct point to change lanes.

Why would you even do this? There's no advantage to moving over when he did vs waiting literally 1 sec more. In my view, bang to rights.

Wow, its harsh. So what is the rule, any part of your car crosses too early, you get a ticket?

How could it be any different? That’s what the markings are there for.

Don't cross the solid white line.

The rules might be clear, but enforcement has some leeway.

It's the equivalent of driving at 71mph on the motorway. Illegal but nobody is ever going to be prosecuted for it.

F1 practice rules spring to mind regarding the white line......draconian but there you go
Maybe it could be better implemented with a dotted line at the end of the bus lane...?

There is a dotted line beyond the end of the bus lane. The bus lane is defined by the solid line.

That's my concern too. When someone goes for a cheeky early move, it screws over the person in front who was doing it properly. Same applies to people crossing solid lines for an overtake just before the car in front reaches the broken line!

The A41 south into Aylesbury has a bus lane that ends and through traffic that knows the route has to move to the left lane. It is a 30mph road and I observe the speed limit and I often have to manoeuvre to avoid some speeding who cuts over early and undertakes just as I am about to change lanes. Your mate deserves to be fined.

And they did it 4 times smile

My first thoughts - crossed a solid white line.

Apparently some seem to think so.
