Yesterday while driving I came across asphalt dumped on the road in patches in my lane and I could not switch lanes due to fast moving traffic and as a result had to go over it and then I saw the broken down lorry with a lot of spilled asphalt parked ahead

Unfortunately my car tires had gone over the fresh asphalt as well as the body has a it of it

How do I get rid of it and is it dangerous to drive like this till i find a way to remove it from the tires?

isn't the council responsible and is there any redress for this? Unfortunately i could not take a pic of the lorry with the contractors name though

Diesel will remove it

Are you wanting some cash compensation?

The council responsible how? Was it their lorry or a contractor of theirs who had dropped it?

I’m not sure they can be expected to clear up a spilt load that has just been dropped by a third party lorry.

Bad luck.

Of course it isn’t the council’s fault - unless they own the lorry which is vanishingly unlikely.

Unless your tyres are now slicks, I wouldn’t worry about driving your car.

That happened to me many years ago, however I was in a hire car. I washed the tar off the bodywork with paraffin and it was fine. I had the car for about two months or so more and I never noticed any issues with paintwork. If it was my own car I would have put some effort into putting some protection on after cleaning just to be safe.

I was on the M6 so by the time I left the motorway there was no tar showing on the tyre treads.

Use cheap car polish over the tar. Leave it on for an hour or two before wiping off. Repeat as necessary

A dedicated tar remover will work best, AutoTardis do one that's well regarded.

Who do you think has been negligent and therefore responsible? A break-down, or malfunction, is always possible and is not negligence in most cases.

This, but white spirit will probably work fine too

For fks sake what is wrong with people nowadays. An old cloth and a bit of petrol and it would all be cleaned off much quicker than taking pictures and whinging about it on the the internet.

But, no, this is the 21st century - I want some compensashuuun, who do I sue? Pathetic!

Going against the grain here, I'd say the council owe you a new car.

I think his tyres are a bit past their past to be honest. Never mind the tar.

Take it to a hand car wash, give them an extra fiver or tenner to pay attention to the arch’s and wings. Job done.

If you’re still aggrieved, sue the contractor for said fiver or tenner plus the cost of your tike at the car wash…

I think you now owe the Council £150 as they have undersealed your wheel arches for you
