Due to come into force early next year and it seems that many forums are simply going to close down due to the necessary admin and the potential fines for the owners. It's likely to affect every type of forum from here to knitting, pets, DIY, caravans etc.

What is likely to happen here?

It’s unenforceable, surely?

On a plus side, it’ll certainly help with this “No social media until you’re 16” idea; there just won’t be any!

I reckon better parenting should be the starting point, not adding regulation to what is supposed to be an open , community created , freely speaking platform.

Kids have always been kids. The internet changes the speed and spread of information but I'm not convinced it corrupts them.

What is damaging is the sheer amount of time they spend on screens instead of interacting in real life.

Yet again the state has been lobbied into parenting people's children for them.

But it's not just about kids is it. Hate, discrimination, phobias etc - not just porn.

I see there is a proposed amendment by Sarah Champion, which if adopted, could be a bit of a problem.
Seems to me the only way to make it work it is to effectively ban VPNs.
It also seems to me that our leadership have not got a clue how the internet works.

Papa: Here's your new Chromebook, it is all setup and has policy settings your Mum &/or Dad can approve as you're 12.
Grandson: Not a problem Papa, every website that asks for my birthdate I say 7/7/1997

FFS -- you cannot legislate controling the 'Net.
