Im not the most educated man on the planet, but from what I have just read from Transport 2000, Wow these people are thick.

They are stating (and I am not disputing this part) that the slower one goes the less chance one has of killing someone. They had it listed somthing like at 40MPH there is a 30% chance of killing someone etc.

They are talking about reducing speed here there and everywhere including the motorways.

WHAT DO THESE PEOPLE WANT???????? I think they are out to get motorway speed limits reduced to 17.4MPH or somthing. Then they would complain that there is permenant gridlock and noone gets anywhere.

IT REALLY PISSES ME OFF. What are we going to do about it as a whole. The government can change ANYTHING it wants and we can do NOTHING about it.

They did a survay about a year and a half ago that stated "over 70% of people backed speed cameras". Then the BBC News online did a survey that ended with over 70% of people NOT backing speed cameras!!!

Think the survey was a little rigged.

Power to the Motorists Action Group. If I wasnt such a chicken I would be right there with them.

Hypothetically of course.....

Parliament can issue any law it sees fit indeed.

However, we can complain to Govt, the queen, opposition MPs, the media. Actually, the Media is probably the best bet, shame the Govt into doing something +ve for once. And of course form a political party to retort to their nazi brainwashing.

Perhaps if they noticed the no. of people killed by ciggies/alchohol and spent so much more time combatting that I would have more respect for them, however as these things make tax money I can't see it..

Actually I think they would then say that it was pointless having all these gridlocked motorways and lets shut them all down and grass them over. These are people who talk about the Infernal combustion engine... lets face it, they'd like to see cars banned.

Well I've got a copy of Transport2000's annual report here, and it's corporate benefactors are almost entirely made up of bus companies, train companies, and a bunch of local councils.

All of these of course are on the end of significant goverment subsidy of one sort or another.

Draw your own conclusions about "what they want"

Not quite, there are a series of checks and balances on Parliament that the current government seems hell bent on removing, or nobbling as soon as they can.

When the house of Lords is directly elected, (ie matching the party political makeup of the commons) then El Presidente Blair will have a far easier time passing whatever legistlation he chooses.

However, there is no law to stop Parliament issuing/passing ANY law it wishes, no matter how unjust.
The Separation of Powers (Exec, Judic, Legislative) do attempt to allow for checks, but as you have said, once President Blair has filled the HOL with his cronies we are really in the s**t. Welcome to your first year law Constitutional Lecture....
