So here's one for those on here that like to suck off the ins co's

Got driven into whilst stationary on one of my old Kawasaki triples back in April, reported to my Co for info only, claim since settled (just under £2k) dealing direct with the 3rd party. Renewal for classic bike policy, which covers 5 bikes comes in last month £15 less than the previous year, so all good.

Car insurance renewal comes in last week gone up by a tenner, they don't yet know about the bike accident, so phone them to let them know the change of circumstances on the policy, They call me back later, wanting over £110 more on a £400 premium because of the bike accident. FUMING DOESN'T EVEN COVER IT, UTTER P**S TAKE

Can you just change insurer? They obviously aren’t competitive for people with your risk profile.

If I couldn’t get competitive insurance with another insurer then I’d probably be a bit miffed.

Yes of course, I posted more for information than advice

I've just been through the renewal / reject / re-offer process.

I'm not sure how they get away with it.

Renewal was a 50 percent increase.

I asked to cancel the auto renewal.

They wouldn't do it without speaking to me directly, at which point they offered 25 percent less than this year's price.

So my insurance is now cheaper this year. I was sorely tempted to tell them where to go, but it'd have been shooting myself in the foot...

My renewal came through £110 cheaper than what I was paying last year - £620 vs £730 - and this emboldened me to try the comparison websites.

I dropped my annual mileage down, removed business miles (kept commuting), removed the requirement to drive any other car, and my quote dropped to £285. yikes

Mine dropped massively this year - one car almost halved, despite a very large claim just over 2 years ago (which didn't put the premium up).

Many years ago I had a similar experience to the OP though. Was suddenly single so needed to insure a car in my name for the first time - was mostly into bikes then.

Wasn't allowed to transfer bike NCD to a car policy, and yet a motorcycle theft claim was relevant to my car quotes.......
Ironically, it meant the cheap runaround I wanted to buy was a stupid price to insure - but that a mid life crisis car was only a bit more. It was the start of an expensive slippery slope

Whole industry is a massive scammers paradise. Funny thing is the FSC is all over car finance and refunds for discretionary payments etc yet the insurance industry goes unchecked. We all know it’s an absolute rip off, and that’s before twig comes along in a minute to offer an alternative reality.

Why is it a rip off?

I had an expensive crash. They paid, I bought a car and was back in the same position I was in before the accident.

Exactly what it says on the tin.....

Clearly you need to do a bit of research .

Yes, clearly my own actual experience is insufficient. And since my accident was discussed on another car group - and other owners had also been happy with similar claims - I guess they were wrong too.

Silly us

I found adding 1000 Business miles reduces my premium, I don't know what the logic is, but I guess all other things being equal, drivers like me who do Business miles are a lower risk?

Bizarrely, checking for cover on a car I was looking at buying, I put "Don't know the registration" for the first comparison site quote, then realised it was on one of the photos in the advert and the quote went up by £50?!

Read the OP.
£110 increase. Yet he was not the cause of any cost to the insurance industry what so ever, other than he simply existed, that's the ultimate logic of the insurance industry.

He made a claim and was considered higher risk.

When I needed it, my insurance did exactly what it should have. Therefore - whether people like the costs or not - it is not a 'scam'.

Think your missing my point, my post was more about comparison and consistency. A non fault motorcycle accident and at renewal my new premium was less than last year Vs a 25% plus increase in my car premium, clearly some dodgy / just plain stupid / incompetent and incorrect risk profiling going on within the Ins industry

Did you get any other quotes ? I'd usually move on principle as long as the other quote was no more than a few quid more, if only to say to my insurers "if you'd not tried to.take the piss, I'd give you my money"

Strangely blinkered view.

To counter your single experience where you made a claim and they paid out, so you are happy, what about the millions of people who have not made a claim, yet their insurance goes up by an exorbitant amount? I might have missed something.

To be fair, the FCA has been all over insurance companies for "price walking" - reamping up renewal premiums. They're now not allowed to quote new customers a lower premium. They've even been making some firms give refunds where they've caught them out.

However the overall effect this seems to have had over the last couple of years is to cause premiums to jump up, in some cases dramatically. Perhaps things are setttling down now?

The most increase we ever had was £25 and that was after a fault accident.

Having a good insurer is key.

Loving the ‘scam’ pearl clutchers though.

hehe

Yes - everything directs you to do it through the web-site or the App, but if you want to cancel they have to speak to you.
Strange that !

My alternative reality is that it's the FCA, not the FSC. As for the insurance industry going unchecked.........
