No Claims Discount - Two Insurance Policies
Discussion
Morning,
I'm a little unclear in regards to no claims discount in respect to multiple insurance policies.
The scenario is that I currently have a single insurance policy covering one of my cars that falls under classic, and the other which is my daily vehicle.
Against the policy I have 17 years no claims.
I have found a replacement for my current daily, however upon calling my current insurer, they wanted an additional £800 for the remaining 4 months of the policy.
For context, I'm going from a 2009 BMW 520d to a 2015 BMW 530d.
As you can imagine, I didnt proceed!
I then compared normal insurance policicies for the new vehicle which were coming out at a much more acceptable £630 annually - which is fine.
My current insurer are able to refund me some of the remaining policy if I remove the daily from the policy.
Heres where I'm a little unclear, I will have 17 years against my current policy which I would like to leave active as it covers the classic - can I state and use I have 17 years no claims on my new policy, or do they need to be transferred or removed from the current policy?
Many thanks,

My take is that generally you can use no claims on one vehicle.
If you then insure a second vehicle you can build up a separate NCD on that vehicle.
Having said that I did have a track day car until a few years ago & most insurers did actually "mirror" the NCD onto the TD car policy.
Basically, you need to contact the insurer/consult the Ts & Cs would be my best advice as I am sure others will do it differently.

Just put the classic on a specialist classic policy as they don't normally have the NCD stuff and use the NCD on your daily. Someone will no doubt recommend an insurer for the classic. I use Peter James for mine.
Good point, it was the same for my first TD car as that was classed as a classic.Afternoon,
Thanks for all the responses - turns out things were all in order in regards to the NCD.
As I expected, it can only be used against one vehicle, it was against the "modern" vehicle and of course the classic did not accrue / qualify for NCD.
My insurers of the classic were unable to insure me on the replacement, the cost was prohibitive - so I changed the policy so it just covers my classic.
Not out of the woods yet though as I've taken out a new policy elsewhere for the new daily and they don't seem to be able to get their heads around my no claims evidence.
"your evidence shows that the policy is still active and NCD will be in use there".... email table tennis. Frustrating.
