Managed to get 5 tickets in the space of a month, all 79 in a 70. FYI, if you set the autopilot in a Tesla, it creeps up in speed to the limit set next to the little speed limit sign, not the actual speed limit.

Expensive lesson to learn, and one that my wife is now endlessly reminding me of.

(as an aside, im guilty, it was my fault, its not going to cause exceptional hardship and I feel a bit of a nob about it all and want it over and processed with asap). I have been driving since 1999, and had a completely clean licence until June.

Anyway.....

All five tickets were in June, I took one speed awareness course to reduce to 12 points, then assumed I would be getting a letter fairly shortly to kick off the totting up ban process. Ive heard nothing since. I emailed the RPS people, who told me to contact the DVLA. Ive emailed them as well, but...DVLA.

Does anyone know how long between the final points going on my licence, and getting a letter from the courts?

Why wouldn't you even try for exceptional hardship?

Can see a case where you can argue that you never had a chance to alter behaviour/car setting which you thought was managing your speed...could then see you on points and still driving, albeit with the proverbial sword above you.

On timings as you'll be at court it could take 6m to lay the charges and another few months before you appear.

Seems harsh to be getting tickets for doing 79 in a 70, bang on the 10% + 2 guidance

What makes it slightly worse is that this was a company leased vehicle - so by the time I had received the first ticket, I had committed the last offence (if that makes sense).

Surely it has a cruise control that you set a speed for?

Not sure I get how this autopilot system creeps up to 79 if you set the limit to 70?

Definite user error - like I said, no excuses from my side.

It does. And you can configure it so it sets this at the speed you are traveling or the max speed of the road (or at least what it thinks this is - it has a nasty habit of seeing side street speed limits)

If its set at 79, then unless adjusted manually with the scroll wheels, then it was set when the car was at 79.

As others have said I think I'd at least of tried the excuse, I couldn't adjust my driving habits as didn't know, but suspect it wouldn't have got anywhere

Nice to see an OP taking full responsibility though

So do you want another 1 mph and another 2% then complain that you were caught bang on the 12% + 3. There has to be a line somewhere you can't keep moving it

10% +2 is where they start prosecuting, not where the allowance ends. 78 mph is ok (???) 79 mph gets a ticket.

10% + 2 is when enforcement starts, so you need stay at 10% + 1 or below to be reasonably sure. Saying that NIP at 79 is harsh. I used to set CC at 77 but now go for 70-75.

EDIT: 2 in before me. I need to type faster.

I may have got this wrong so correct me if I have but I always thought that if you were at the threshold of being banned you then had to attend court. In other words if you had 9 points and got caught for speeding again you were forced to go to court, you were not just banned by them contacting you, it had to be face to face. Maybe I'm wrong?

How many points have you actually got on your licence? (Not just how many you think you have)

Yes that's broadly correct

The last ticket you received which if guilty would take you to 12 would normally have required court attendance

What has actually happened so far paperwork wise and what is the timeline?

An online licence check would be a good place to start

Edit to say any ban you may receive from the court starts there and then, hence people are told not to drive to court if they are in danger of being disqualified

Very true - I’ve been nabbed twice for 35 in a 30 and 79 in a 70. Both bang on the threshold. <shrug> it is what it is.

It's absolutely outrageous, speed enforcement is an incredibly over zealous factory production line for generating cash.

Surely, if it was "over zealous" people would be getting done for 71 in a 70?

So you see the limit is 70 on the screen, see 79 MAX next to it, and then also see the current speed on the right of that is 79 while going through a speed camera which it would have bonged to tell you about, and did this 5 times..?

Wouldn’t have to attend if you receive a SJPN then NOPD.
