First NIP in 17 years of driving
Discussion
Just got a NIP for 43 in a 30. At 4 in the bloody morning on a deserted A road First in 17 years of driving.
Always thought it was a 40 stretch. Didn’t see any flash or anything, but anyway.
Looks like I’m not eligible for a course either, is that right? Yet at 42 I would have been? No mitigation I suppose that can count towards that such as time of day etc?
Cheers

42 is at the top of the threshold, (10% +9) so all being well you should be offered a courseAlways thought it was a 40 stretch. Didn’t see any flash or anything, but anyway.

It looks to have been one of these new Vector SR cameras. Quite frightening actually.

You could try that at court...but they'll properly just say the speed limits are the same at night...Always thought it was a 40 stretch. Didn’t see any flash or anything, but anyway.

One ticket every 17 years isn't a bad batting score. I'm guessing you've done many journeys and many thousands of miles in that time. I would also suspect you may have trickled over the speed limit once or twice during that time.
So don't feel too bad about being pinged for this one indiscretion, celebrate all the other times you've got away with it.

Yes. It makes no sense and isn't fair but 43 = more than 30 so a win to the State, who need all the £100's they can get. Just regard it as (yet) another motoring expense and move on.So don't feel too bad about being pinged for this one indiscretion, celebrate all the other times you've got away with it.

Court is the only place to mention mitigation. That means you would have to decline the fixed penalty (which is far and away the cheapest option).Edited by JagLad on Tuesday 24th September 19:55

indeed. I meant with regards to leniency towards a Course….. first offence, 4am, 1mph over that threshold etc, but looks like nothing can influence that and points it is.
The Speed Awareness Course speed thresholds are very strictly applied. For a 30-mph limit the speed range is 35-mph to 42-mph.Despite every course having people on it saying they were doing 31 mph, 32 mph, 33 mph and 34 mph, they were not, because you can't go on a speed awareness course at less than 35 mph for a 30 mph limit.

Two of those were whilst living in France, on one the cop actually said to me "This merde is not what I joined the police force for, but the government needs the money, lots of unemployment and pensions benefits to pay etc etc " At least they are honest there about the whole speeding 'industry'
PS I've got 60 years NCB, guess I'm just lucky?

The nice man who interrupted me one evening when I was making good progress said 'It's all about the money'.PS I've got 60 years NCB, guess I'm just lucky?
60 years NCB? Your insurers should be paying you
I got my first NIP in 47 years of driving last October, so I figured I'd been lucky!
It was for 61 in a temporary 50 for roadworks on the M40 in Warwickshire at 9.30pm on a Wednesday with no workforce or other vehicles in the photos they sent me, but thankfully at that speed I took the offer of an SAC.
If I had been above the SAC threshold I would have just taken the Fixed Penalty and been grateful I'd avoided a Court appearance!

I got caught at 87 in a 70, 86 would of been SAC, 87 was 3 points £100. Always thought it was a 40 stretch. Didn’t see any flash or anything, but anyway.
