Insurance issue
Discussion
The insurance on 'er indoors car was set to auto renew, I was tolerably happy with the price so let it go through then cancelled the auto renew for next year.
Insurer has sent an email with attached documents and Askmid shows the thing as insured.
BUT
This was now 8 days ago, and my credit card has not been debited......

If you have the certificate of insurance you are covered. The issue over payment is their problem not yours.Insurer has sent an email with attached documents and Askmid shows the thing as insured.

The card expiry date on the original payment method may have "expired"?It's just that nagging doubt, perhaps I'll call them in the morning.

Potentially there is a clause somewhere stating if you have not made payment within 'x' days policy is voided etc etc. In that case you are morally and legally in the wrong.
You've leapt on Kestrel's answer so that is obviously what you wanted to hear. If you're ok with being morally in the wrong and are absolutely sure the contract doesn't allow room for wiggle room when you cause an accident then you're fine to keep the money.
I am with Direct Line, I have auto-renew and payment has always been taken around 7 - 10 days after the new policy starts. This has been the case for as long as I can remember.
The first time I rang them and queried it, they said it's expected and don't worry, you're covered and if there's a problem with the payment we know where to find you Never queried it after that.
So maybe in some cases it's normal. But I would call them to make sure.

Despite the assurance of the forum legal seagull I suggest you follow the advice of others & give the insurance company a call to check that there isn't an issue.
Perhaps they're just a little tardy in taking the money but better to be safe than sorry.
You don't want to find some time down the line that your payment has failed & you are standing at the side of a road watching your car being taken away as ANPR etc has pinged you as being uninsured & your call to your insurers has confirmed it.

Rubbish, a certificate of insurance is worthless nowadays. You need a VALID insurance policy, not a worthless piece of paper. What happens if you cancel the insurance after they have sent the certificate? It's easy to get a certificate that isn't worth the paper it's written on.
However the fact that it's showing up on MIDs is a good thing, so probably OK but as others have said, worth phoning up just to check.

Just contact them, in the time you’ve been asking us it would have been cleared up.

I look forward to a follow up thread where you ask us about whether you can avoid 6 points for no insurance if it gets cancelled.
Maybe things have changed in the digital world but it should be an easy defence if holding a Certicate of Insurance - hence they always asked for them back in the past when insurance was cancelled.Sheepshanks said:

I wonder if I can use Adobe Acrobat Standard DC to "edit" the certificate of motor insurance that I just downloaded???I just tried it and I can
