Hello. I have had a few toll/parking fines/invoices for a car around that area. The reg is very similar but it's clear from the photo that it's not my vehicle and how the ANPR has erred.

This NIP has no way of contesting as a mistake and when you log on for images/calibration it just says nothing available.

When investigated they will see where the mistake lies.

My question is, should I complete the NIP in any way or write/email back contesting it? I can phone the number on Monday but I'm concerned that there's 6 points on offer for not replying properly.

Just want to create the correct paper trail.

It was for 33 in a 30 BTW.

Thanks.

Seems wierd that different ANPR devices would mis-identify the same reg number as being yours multiple times.

Does the offending vehicle have a non standard registration format ?

Defo splurge a response with phone call, email. Print out copy email and post normal post and also recorded.

33 in a 30 is not a parking toll/fine/invoice as you described, nor is it within the usual prosecution limits for speeding. Which is it?

The photos on previous toll/parking photos shows that their v looks like a y. I can see how the system might get confused but it doesn’t look non standard.

I’m thinking that it could have been a 20 zone as 33 seems harsh.

Will send the Welsh nip back incomplete, hang onto the English one and send a letter, email and phone I think.

Getting a bit sick of this now, the others were a two minute contest online but of course the police don’t consider it a necessary option.

Thanks for the replies, even the accusatory one as it wouldn’t be a PH thread without it

I had this recently from Devon and Cornwall Police's 'Operation Snap'. I called them, explained they'd mis-read the plate on the photos they supplied; it was a motorbike they had pictures of and my car - even if you squint - definitely isn't a motorbike. I said I couldn't complete the NIP as it was nothing to do with my vehicle and they had made an error. I followed this up with an email and got them to email back confirming they'd made a mistake and there would be no further action - that was the end of it.

Ah, the PH massive...I long for a return to the days when it was mostly a genial TVR forum wink

I was told on a speed awareness course that it’s entirely up to the police where they set their limits and that the common 10% plus 2 mph tolerance is discretionary.

Someone on my course claimed to have been done doing 31mph in a 30mph zone. The instructor said where he was flashed, in one of the tunnels under the Thames was a notorious accident blackspot and the camera had been set on the nose.

So I’d believe 33mph in a 30mph zone.

I don't believe any of that made up nonsense from the SAC givers.

I guess that guy who was done doing 31mph was also a plant?

This seems a very controversial thing to say here. There was someone claiming to be some sort of speeding lawyer saying this is utter nonsense in the past. smile

IANAL but if it's not your car then how can you fail to provide details of the driver? Just call on Monday and if they can't sort it there and then ask them what communication they want.

Phone them!

This happened to my dad, (93), last month.
He received a NIP from Northern Ireland, his car never strays more than a couple of miles from his garage, which is nowhere near N.I. and somewhere he's never been during the past 93 years.

A phone call sorted it out and he received a letter within the week confirming there would be no further action.

10% plus 2 isn’t a thing.

10% plus 1mph is.

OP needs to post redacted NIP as proof. Which they won't.

Why did you provide uncertain information, and then conveniently say you think it might have been 20 all along when brought up? You have the NIP right in front of you, do you have difficultly with reading comprehension? You haven't replied to it yet.

Try harder next time with the imaginary scenario posts.

but wouldn't it be deeply enjoyable to take it all the way to court, with your car parked outside and show them the error of their ways?

I assume its a completely different car?.

But even if not, you can prove that there are two cars with similar but different plates.

Is that the one that says it's ok to use your phone if it's in your lap?
