If a police car, not a cameravan but a regular e.g. Volvo estate, is parked hidden on a dual carriageway; and a driver is speeding, what is the likely outcome? Would there normally be a flash, assuming this is after dark? Would they then turn the lights on and follow the offending driver, to present him with a warning and/or evidence of speeding?

Or they don’t normally measure speeds at all?

No there won't be any flash and they would normally stop at the time, but don't have to

Hypothetically then, how would it take for a NIP to arrive by post?

Unless they had a camera set up in the Volvo, which I doubt, forget about it.

You were not going fast enough, they probably had the radar set up looking for the really quick and a chase.

As far as I know, cameras and cameras vans have to be visible, and they cannot send a radar reading nick in the post without photographic evidence.

There is no flash from cameravans.

Trafpol often park up at the side of dual carriageways or m-ways, sometimes using purpose built raised parking areas. Chances are they were either between shouts and waiting for either a Nigel Mansell wannabe going faster than you were, or for something uninsured to ping their ANPR, or they were waiting for a specific target car to pass them. Either way, seeing as they didn’t bother with you there and then you’ve nothing to worry about.

Mine had no photo on. Just the details of where, when and how fast. It was genuine as I saw the buggers and knew I was cooked.

Just because it didn't have a photo on it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

You generally need to ask to see it if you aren't sure who is driving.

are cameravans and Volvo (etc) estates equally likely to be deployed with cameras ?

Don't trafpol cars have ANPR?

Probably just sitting around waiting for the ANPR to spot someone.

Not saying it doesn't exist at all. Just giving my experience.

Apparently they do not need to chase you & stop to confirm the driver if you were going fast enough & they got your plate on certain handheld devices that's good enough to go to court with as up to you to prove otherwise not up to them!

A traffic cop on here posted about it a while ago his written & video evidence is good enough on a handheld you have to hire someone to defend you & challenge the evidence.

The reality is though unless you were doing silly speeds they probably CBA to process the paperwork otherwise they would have stopped you there & then!!

Some day, before I die, I'm going to slow down on a dual carriageway and drive up and down one of them, Police Vehicles Only sign or no Police Vehicles Only sign.

If I read that before this morning, I would have said you might as well, they do not, but saw one on its perch this morning, I think the first time ever, and I am on the road everyday.
