Shotgun certificate renewal - GP and home address differ
Discussion
Hi all,
I hope this is the place to put this and wondered if anyone had any guidance.
A couple of years ago I started a job away from home so I moved. Each weekend travel back to the home where the shotgun certificate is registered and that is where I shoot, so didn't think anything of moving certificate as I still think of that as home.
I did, however, move my GP as I thought that the work address is where I would more likely need it.
I've just had my certificate renewal, and it has just occurred to me that my GP has a completely different address for me than the police force. They are several hours apart in the car.
Will this be a problem? Do I just include a cover letter explaining this situation?
I don't want to mess anything up.
Thanks for any thoughts/experience on the matter.

You might be better off posting your question in here.I hope this is the place to put this and wondered if anyone had any guidance.

Speak to your local firearms officer. Don't do anything to try and botch/reconcile it now.
If you're a member of BASC, might be useful to have a word with one of their advisors first. Some of them are ex FEOs and might have something useful to say.
I'd get your request for the GP report in ASAP. If they refuse to do it you have time to organise it privately - BASC have a panel of doctors available to do this. My GPs are very good (semi rural) immediately agreed to do the report and turned it round within a fortnight. Others aren't so lucky.
My opinion is, given your situation it's understable arrangement, but I would guess you will need to be convincing in relation to your security arrangements.

Just one observation/question as the situation you described mirrors what I experienced quite a few years back when renewing mine.
It's not clear to me from your OP whether or not the home where the certificate is registered is inhabited during the week when you're away.
I was OK at the beginning as my original certificate was at my parents address and my father also had a shotgun certificate at the same address. After my father died the FO who came out for the renewal made it clear that while it was an acceptable situation, I had to make sure the shotguns (I inherited my dad's) were secured and that the keys weren't left at the house (as my mother didn't have a cert).
