These guys have sent me a demand for unauthorised parking at Hatherton Medical Centre in Walsall.
There are 2 photos of the vehicle.
Firstly the registration number is different,by one extra digit, than my registration number.Looks to me like a foreign registration number.
Secondly it's also a different vehicle to mine .

What's the procedure here ?
Do I go through the appeal process on their website?
Can I just ignore it or is that opening me up to a visit from a debt collector further down the line?

Were you there at the time or not?

A foreign reg plate really isn't that hard to recognise

If it's not yours then tell them so and enclose a pic of your car

Tell them them the vehicle in the photo is not yours.

It wouldn't surprise me if the whole process is automated and a human being doesn't look at it until there is an issue.

I would just reply, with an appeal stating this is not your vehicle. Give no further information. Quite frankly they have illegally requested your details from the DVLA, GDPR breach.

Expect the appeal to be declined, then file all further correspondence, and don't waste your time worrying about it.

I have had to do that a couple of times, with my private plate.

I just pointed out the wrong vehicle and location miles from my home and they cancelled.

If you play around with variations of the plate in the DVLA car checker, you can often find the real vehicle in the photos.

Depending on how arsey their letter was would depend on how much I helped in return.
I'd be inclined to ignore it for a bit, let them waste effort and then tell them much later in the process.. evil

Reminds me of my London ULEZ fine/charge last year. At the time my car was the orange BMW in the photo. Look at the photographic evidence they sent me and no the registration numbers weren’t similar. rofl

Send it back to them & tell them that you won’t be responding to any more charges or correspondence.

Nope send it back and tell them for each extra charge that is sent to you there will be a £200 admin fee payable by them for each letter, reduced to £100 if paid within 14 days.

That would not be contractually binding.

I would suggest you send them an SAR, you can find as example on the ICO. When this is replied to write again and say since the vehicle was not your they are required to delete or your data. If you then get another invoice you can then you can sue for breach of DPA. The damages vary but £500 to £750 have been claimed.

But they could just request my details from the DVLA if it happens again.... I've actually contacted the DVLA to see what my rights are.
My concern is if the driver of the vehicle doesn't care where they park what other offences may they be committing, speeding etc that may come back to me.

So write back to them pointing out exactly what’s happened and that you won’t be responding to any more letters, fines/charges or notifications from them. Remember there’s very little they can do without taking you to Court and they wont want to do that.

Agreed you wouldn't end up in court but the bit before that can be quite frightening with the language they use and if not frightening just the persistence with tons of letters arriving constantly. Even sometimes a year later they'll send another letter.

Since they have already agreed its not your number plate, your post suggests it wrong on one number, they should not have accessed your data. One error by them might be excused. Repeating the error and again accessing your data with no reason would be a clear breach of DPA.

Amateur.

Green for the first one. Purple for the second one. That’ll get ‘em!
