Hi all,

I thought PH might be more helpful than DVLA here....

My stBox finally died over the weekend, and I will be scrapping it.

I applied to DVLA to transfer the private plate off of it yesterday, and it is now on retention, ready to go on the other car.

No particular problem there, but the certificate I got from DVLA having put the private plate on retention seems to suggest I have just three working days to buy new plates (back on its original registration number). I do not have plates with the old number...

As the car is being scrapped I don't really want to rush out and buy new plates, or buy new plates at all !

Question is, can I just take the physical private plates off of the to-be-scrapped car and scrap it as is, giving the V5 to the scrap car people in the usual way?

Thanks smile

That is exactly what I did when mine was totalled, just told Copart when they picked it up, showed them the paperwork & they were fine about it.

Thanks chaps,

Just by way of an update, and in case it's interesting - I did get a call back from a very helpful Paul (hi Paul) at the DVLA since my OP, and he said the new V5 was already in the post to me, and to wait for that before scrapping to cover all the bases.

He said that when I got the new V5 I could use its document reference number to make an online submission confirming the car had been scrapped and that that would also cancel the DD for the tax too... smile
