Hi guys,

Before I start, I know I’m an idiot and should have been more careful on the road but have managed to get four speeding tickets within a year. Two cases of 79 on the motorway, 38 in a 30 and have just now received the ticket for 36 in a 30.

After receiving the 3rd ticket, I was trying hard to be careful but unfortunately was in an area I wasn’t familiar with for work and got snapped up.

I am a territory account manager for a medical company and need my car for my work as I have to travel all over the country to different hospitals, I work on NHS contracts and supplying laboratory equipment, as well as training nhs staff.

Work have told me they would not be able to keep me on if I was to be banned as I’m normally required to do over 20k miles a year. Additionally, I am the main earner in my household. I live with my parents but give them a percentage of my salary every month to cover mortgage and household needs, losing my job would cause hardship to my parents in terms of finances. And also my mother is primary carer to a younger sibling with a sever disability, this means that sometimes I am depended on to run errands for her as my mother needs to be with her at all times. Finally, I did do a voluntary driving course a month ago if that would help my case at all? I have also been driving only with a speed limiter on (too late I know)

If I was listening to that there'd be no chance. You've had 4 chances.

But there's people driving around with over 30 points so give it a crack.

4 speeding offences in a year......!!

I've often done 20-30k miles a year, for decades - but never had a speeding ticket.

Not much point worrying about your job when you've had so many prior warnings, you're never going to change.

Lawyer up with someone experienced in this field. Do the courses advised and show remorse before you come to court.

It can work but you'll pay for it (as you should).

Can you hire a driver and keep your job?
If the job is worth keeping that is.

Even if it’s expensive, you might still be better off than being unemployed for a period, while trying to find a similay]r paying job that requires no car / driving.

I understand exactly where you’re coming from but I have genuinely been making a difference in my driving with a limiter on at all times.

This is something I’ve considered, would stretch me but keeping my job is priority. Just wanted to see if I have a chance at hardship or having a reduced ban

If it’s any help that story isn’t selling it to me… probably try a different tact.

Can’t imagine this is going to go the way you hope.

Relying on a 'speed limiter' makes you sound like an arsewit who can't actually drive for himself.

If you need a gadget to help you be aware of road conditions including speed limits, you shouldn't be driving.

5, if you include the Speed Awareness Course. 6, if one of those was a motorway course!

If you give sworn evidence you will lose your job if you are disqualified you are 99% certain to keep your license.

Thank you for the advice, this is my plan. Hopefully this along with proof I pay my parents mortgage and the consequences for the company having to find and retrain someone I’ll have a chance. And showing proof of my voluntary driver retraining courses

You're just not getting it.

Sob stories about parents and employers are nothing to do with the law.

Fitting equipment to limit your speed was not needed, I've never had it - and never been caught speeding (no, I don't dawdle!). The answer is incredibly simple - keep your speed within the limits.

Why should people have any sympathy for you when you're clearly happy to increase the risk of death/injury - for others ?

PH posters normally condone speeding / making progress / enthusiastic driving / pressing on / etc etc, inviting those who object to join BRAKE or Mumsnet - but they seem to have turned against you for some reason OP.

I’d be fine with that - they’re all pretty marginal offences.

Lot of pressure out on the road in any “sales rep” type job. I only ever got done twice but both were for fairly hefty speeds - caught once by an unmarked car and the other time a very hidden tripod camera. And I spent years of the only limiting factor being the car in front of me. A colleague in his 50’s, never been done before, got caught three times in two weeks by speed cameras - he then avoided driving unless he really had to (we often did site visits 2 up).
