I'll keep it brief, on behalf of a family member

-Bought a used EV from approved used dealership on 12th Jun
-Within a few days, after its first full charge it threw a drive error
-Went back to them for a week, think they know what's wrong with it but needs to go to specialist battery repairer
-Given car back to him as safe to drive but has errors on dash and range slightly reduced
-Poor service from dealership - not calling back when promised etc - transpires it may be MONTHS until it can be fixed.

Obviously he has no interest in driving the broken car, or a courtesy car all that time so he has emailed them rejecting it today. (I believe day 28)

He has received an acknowledgement albeit a holding reply. He copied in a number of people in the group.

Questions:
- He will stop driving the car, however the 30 days are approaching on Friday - does the notification mean it can now go on longer if they delay picking it up etc or stop him dropping it off?

- If he drives it there on day 30 and leaves them with the keys, how does it work if they haven't agreed to refund at that point?

- He has notified the finance co although they appeared to be not interested. anything else he should do?

Consumer Rights Act 2015 claim, the notification pauses the clock so do not worry.

I would, in my opinion, not be leaving the car and keys there without walking away with a refund.

Finance company are jointly liable for this, so get onto them again. They should be helping get this sorted

Depends on what type of finance it is. Section 75 doesn't always apply.

This and when it's all sorted go and buy a proper car............you know, the type that has a whirly bit in the front and goes suck, squeeze, bang, blow driving

A good friend of mine decided to buy his wife a brand new ID3 last year (their first EV). It properly broke after 24 hrs & the main dealer couldn't get to the bottom of the issue & it got replaced immediately with another car - they're not immune from problems although they are less complex than an ICE car as they've less moving parts. Glad it's been sorted now btw thumbup

Yeah he pulled the trigger on the ENY1 deal- absolutely stonking really, £0 deposit 36x £289 for the top spec model. Should be a less troublesome proposition.

The id3 was quite cool but yes not the best start and soured things.

Just wait until he gets the insurance quote.

£60 more pa than the id3, that was already reasonable?

What about a comparison to an ICE similar car?

I don’t know the ins and outs but he had a fiesta ST before that, the id3 was a smidge more, the Honda a smidge more again, but talking £50 odd rises.

The Honda is worth 8 times what his fiesta was.

Insurance is generally cheaper for a new car than an old one, you are more likely to look after it. I ran a comparative quote for an EV vs a ICE car. Came out at 3 times the price for the EV. It's a big 'No thanks' from me.
