Probable charge of whom? One driver is dead so I can say with confidence he wont be charged. There are literally no pertinent details of this incident online to even start any speculation as to whether the other driver will be charged or is even being investigated.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cxrrrvy5qd4o

The A17 is an accident waiting to happen.
60 miles of heavily used, mostly single carriagway, road, only 4 miles of it dual.
It's the main route for traffic coming south on the A1 and wanting to head to Norfolk and all points in between Newark and Kings Lynn. And vice versa.
Loads of HGVs and a lot of farm traffic too. Many many side turnings.
Successive governments have failed to upgrade it.
Just sad that two young lives have been snuffed out. The accident didn't need to be anyone's fault, the road itself is dangerous.

I disagree. Very few things are actually accidents - that would be (such things as) a tree falling over in front of your car which you cannot avoid etc.Roads don't kill people, drivers do. Driving too fast for the conditions, driving beyond ones capability, or a multitude of different aspects play into it. A road might be called 'dangerous' and we can attempt to mitigate that roads hazards in a number of ways but ultimately, drivers need to take responsibility for their actions.

My wife has family near Sleaford so I've done the stretch between there and the A1 loads of times. I think I've seen more bonkers overtakes, insanely close tailgating, crazy pull-outs-without-looking, drifting into the opposite lane and general all-round fkwittery on that road than in all the other miles I've ever driven. Definitely something in the water round those parts. Tbh with the number of bridges and junctions you'd have to incorporate into an upgrade it would probably be easier to just build a whole new road. 60 miles of heavily used, mostly single carriagway, road, only 4 miles of it dual.

Easier still to put up some cameras for 50mph average....OutInTheShed said:
