mmm so why are accident black spots in different locations to the Speed cameras, well of course I know the reason but the point is why do we allow the Plods to get away with it? I have had several break-ins and cars vandalised and have been attacked on my front door step but have the Plods helped me ...NAH bit if I tripped on their poxy speed cameras they will hound me until the fine is paid...PS don't they called them safty cameras now? well that is correct as they all seem to be the safest parts of the roads

In this case the accident blackspot thing is a red herring. The Road Angel beeps all over the shop. I don't know how they categorised black spots but it seems to me that it must be anywhere that someone might have been worried about crashing once.

Driving up the M1 it was bleeping away at almost every junction. I can see there's a junction. I can see if there's a hazard. I don't need a little box farting away at me every thirty seconds to warn me of miniscule risks.

Porsches have a system that raises the spoiler at 80mph don't they? I could make a fortune if I designed the same thing with numberplates at 70.

So Ted - IS there a device that let's you know about non-radar detectable devices without leaving one's brow overly pespired with angst?

My Euro 550 works fine on GATSOS and bridges, etc but if I'm blatting down the A17 past Sleaford against one of the local biker psychos and have inadvertently just trickled fractionally over the NSL, what protection against el TRUVELO/SPECS/'things-in-the-road' type thingies?

Domster reckoned the Angel might be ok but the constant bleep bleep sounds dire.

There's Geodesy and a new system out this week that we'll be reviewing soon. That's from www.cyclops-uk.com

I have a Euro 550 but was also concerned about some of the other "tax" gadgets the local council/plod use so have just installed a Origin Blue. This works very well with it's remote aerial and it only beeps if you're travelling in the direction of the trap and above the speed for that trap. Only beeps when you need it!

So Mick - does your detector pick up SPECS, TRUVELO and road-based sensors?

The Origin Blue works on a GPS system. It knows where the various traps are and which way you're going and at what speed. It doesn't detect them as the Euro 550 does. So providing someone has already found/reported a trap to Origin it's included in the database on the unit in your car. You can upload the latest database whenever, recommendation is weekly. Has all fixed types, gatso, specs, etc and some motorway roadwork ones. For full protection (!) you need both a detector like the Euro and a GPS based Origin.

Cheers for that, Mick: as a 550 user too, the addition of said Origin device now means my dash will resemble the profile of R2-D2's head!

I know you can delete individual blackspots. I don't want to have to drive every road in the country deleting all the blackspots before I can use the system in earnest though
