Am I in trouble..?
Discussion
Waiting at traffic lights yesterday when my in-cradle Waze said there was a delay. Scrolling map with one hand to see where the delay is and plenty of room to car in front so just letting car inch forward. Parking sensor beeps making it clear I still have room when I see the driver in theTesla in front gesticulating wildly so I stop rolling forward.
As the lights go green and we move off, the Tesla pulls over to the left presumably to snapshot dashcam footage. Guessing they think I was too close and prob not paying attention. Any idea what I could expect if they submit dashcam footage?
Thanks in advance.

If the Tesla driver was that bothered you'd think he'd sound the horn, not wave his hands.
I don't think the current craze for people to photograph other people doing what they consider to be incorrect is very healthy for society.
Maybe the horn needed the driver to go through 6 menu options on the display I don't think the current craze for people to photograph other people doing what they consider to be incorrect is very healthy for society.

Pressing the horn (which even on a Tesla is still achieved through pressing a button on the steering wheel) actually saves dash cam footage anyway. Fatherdougal said:

Touching a device held in a cradle is not illegal, stopping a bit too close to the car in front is not illegal.
Not sure what it is like in a Tesla, but I do find many cars seem to have rear view mirrors that make the car behind seem much closer than it actually is - including my little commute car.
Quite a difference in the actual gap to when I check the rear view mirror and it looks like I am about to be mounted. My side mirrors tend to show the gap more accurately.
I do get a bit stressed by those putting blind faith in their sensors. Park up and wait in your car in Tesco for example, and sooner not later you watch as someone is reversing out of a bay directly at you. You look up, presume they will stop....well now surely....bloody hell mate, BRAKE!!
And then they do. Hopefully, for gawd knows what happens if the sensors are not working properly.

I’m not sure I understand the question. What do you think you could be in trouble for?
Yep - fair comment. My concern is I ended up probably just a couple of centimetres away from their rear bumper and if they’d looked in their rear view mirror they may have seen me touch sat nav on Waze on the phone in the cradle. It obviously spooked them and wondered if they could consider it driving without due care and attention.
To be fair, I ended up closer than I would normally be, and not trying to make excuses but I’ve had the car less than a week and visibility to the end of the bonnet is not good (Aston Martin Vantage).

You can guess as much as you like, but you don't know what was happening in his car, here is another extremely plausible scenario. As the lights go green and we move off, the Tesla pulls over to the left presumably to snapshot dashcam footage. Guessing they think I was too close and prob not paying attention.
Tesla driver takes phone call hands free, gets irate with caller, gesticulating wildly, decides it is better to pull over while distracted.......
There are probably many other possibilities.

You’re not going to get in any trouble.
But it’s not wholly unreasonable for the car in front to get a bit concerned when they see the one behind slowly drifting towards them. You know you’re in control, although maybe that’s arguable if you’re looking at your phone rather than the car in front, but they don’t know if you’re in control or preoccupied with your phone.
Maybe just use your handbrake in the future if you’re fking around with your phone?
The Tesla's parking sensors were probably going into the red/alarm zone hence him waving at you !But it’s not wholly unreasonable for the car in front to get a bit concerned when they see the one behind slowly drifting towards them.
