Warranty Question
Discussion
Long story short, bought car took out and paid for 18 month warranty thru dealer. Sold car 2 months later asked can I transfer warranty, response no, warranty is voided on sale of car. Ok can I have 16 month for services no longer being provided. Answer no, warranty is voided on sale of car. Is this right?

Still looking for for the small print as all done by mail. Just a question, even if on small print it I’m wondering if this is actually something they can do. Lots of stuff on small print that isn’t actually correct under consumer law
I believe small print if deemed unreasonable by a judge can be overturned, but that needs a judge. You could ring the warranty company on Monday and ask, just to confirm. As they've had the money to warranty the car for 18 months then you could argue they're obliged either to honour it to the new owner or refund you. Getting their cake and eating it seems unfair to me, but moving it to a different vehicle I can see would be a no because it's a different risk.

Who did you ask - was it the warranty company? Some will transfer for an admin fee. I did this when selling a car with a Warranty Direct warranty on it.asked can I transfer warranty, response no, warranty is voided on sale of car. My experience:
Alfa Romeo would transfer for £30.00
Volvo done a pro-rata refund less a small admin fee.
I guess it’s all in the small print, I would expect that if you’d claimed, there would be no refunds.
The ombudsman says that after 14 days, it’s at the discretion of the provider, so if it’s in their terms, yes, if not, tough.

It is up to the seller of the item (warranty in this case) to decide if it is transferrable.I don't allow warranty transfer on my products.

That would suggest the warranty company is happy to allow transfer, but the retailer can prevent it. Why would they do that? Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
