My new (to me) Tiger R10 Kit Car was SVA/IVA’d in Feb 2022. I’m attempting to tax it today and the DVLA have classed it as a PLG, consequently, they want £345, not £190 it would be for a car.

DVLA form V149 shows categories including 'Cars registered on or after 01/04/17' and a separate category for 'Private/light goods vehicle (tax class 11) weighing no more than 3,500kg'

How can this tiny little thing possibly be classed as a PLG? Is there anything I can do to challenge DVLA on this?😤

Absent type approval or a CO2 emissions figure on the type approval certificate, the vehicle will be taxed as a PLG.

Note this doesn't mean it's a goods vehicle - PLG = Private (motor cars) or Light Goods.

I think its that type approval or lack thereof that means they have taken it to be PLG and so hits hard on the VED.

Not sure there is a way around that, if you can't prove its emissions or type approval, you will have to pay.
