I want to add my father in law to my insurance policy - he lives in Rep of Ireland and is taking my new purchase (2002 Boxster) to his mechanic.

I've tried my own insurer and they can't do it. I've tried taking a new policy on a comparison website but when I get to the point of adding him it askes for time lived in the UK and obviously he doesn't.

Anyone know who to get round this - legally.

Thanks.

Either try a broker to help and/ or consider an additional temporary policy covering you both or just him ?

Just to be clear, as it isn't from your post.

Is he taking it to his mechanic in the RoI from your address in UK?

Is he taking it to a garage in UK from your address in UK?

He's taking it from my address in the UK to his mechanic in Dublin.

in that case would it not be easier for him to do a short term policy from his end?

It would also be worth him checking his policy for conditions to driving another car with the owner’s consent. OP takes it to the port, he takes over once in Ireland.

Another policy is likely to be expensive and there are plenty of good Porsche specialists here in the UK.
