No, not me but a work colleague here.

What's he looking at ? Road conditions were ideal (it happened at the end of September during the mild snap we had), road was as clear as a bell. Plod on a bike with VASCAR (appraently), got the NIP through late last week.

He has a clean licence, always has had. He needs his car for work, and his line manager has already promised a letter if required.

Should he go to court ? He hasn't been summoned to appear, so he could plead guilty by post.

Ideas would be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

ISTR that if he is not required to attend court, he's in no danger of being disqualified (unless by totting up once he sends his license in.. ?)

pffft.. VasCar.. arse..

Yeah, that's what I thought, CarZ. If they say they don't want you there (it's in Gloucester), then they ain't gonna ban you. He said he'd be happy with 6 and a couple of hundred quid.

So much for Safety.......

If he was a dangerous reckless child killing, granny bashing scum of the universe speeder then when plod caught him fraglently breaching the most holy of British laws he should've been pulled over on the spot and beaten to a pulp for having the temerity to attempt such a heinous act.

Instead in the interests of safety (and I include Truvelo's here) and revenue raising, he gets a piccy in the post and a tax demand for £60.

Load of boll@kz!

Years ago I was actually stopped for 99.8 mph ( very nice copper must have had to take the reading several times to get one that low! ) in my old 911.

3pts, £60. Slap wrist, naughty boy. Job done. 3 years on your paperwork (4 now I believe) and forget about it.

If I was you mate I'd just roll over. He might get away with a 3 pointer - and everybody's got one of those....besides - given that they have the evidence there is absolutely no chance he'd get away with it.

I know all about the "principle of the thing" arguments but all this means is higher fine, more points and additional s**t for a bloke who probably won't get caught again for another ten years.

Tell him to buy a Geodesy, get a Radar detector and go on a driving observation course. Better value for money than trying to fight.

I got done down is sussex years ago by vascar on a bike (its fairly common) at exactly 100.0 which made me very suspicious, anyway I got the summons with the option to go guilty by post which I did, this then got returned saying "sorry we're not accepting that and want you to appear" I spoke to a local magistrate i know who said "your banned if they want you in" So best suit on and a trip down to Arundal combined with an oscar winning performance gave me 6 points and a few hundred quid fine (can't remember exact amount) which I classed as result. This may have all been because I tripped the magic 100 but should be remembered it was 5 years or so ago and they weren't quiet so "speed kills" mantra chanting then.

Not too bad, but a bit shocking that a lot of us round here would be looking at a hefty fine & points just for safe driving of a 'spirited' nature. ie every time out where & when possible.

Am hearing more and more of fines and points coming down, I know of one case that was 61mph in a 30 and the result was 3 points £80 fine.

How?

Top secret orders from above?

"Please stop P**sing of the motorists so badly, we want to remain in power"

*wakes up*

Or maybe it's just the suit and tie effect?
