Just watched Top Gear, they tested the theory that if you pass it quickly enough the Gatso won't get a second pic.

Results:

1. Honda type R 130ish - Nicked
2. Merc AMG 150ish - Nicked
3. TVR Tuscan 170ish - Gatso didn't even take one pic - Result.

So now you know.......

Where is the "cut off" speed? 160, 161... 170 exactly?

This is also about radar presence, so a small profile like a sports car is less likely to set a camera off than a hatchback.

Top tip, any biking buddies here.... ride the M25 on the lane dividers, and the gantry cameras don't seem to pick you up as they are focused on the mid portion of the lane !!!!! (proven, 4 weeks ago).

"Urban legend" says 155mph IIRC, but I suppose a calculation could be done if we knew reaction times etc of the radar device & camera.

Wonder if a bike might pass by easier being smaller....

Fibreglass car versus Steel car. (Radar reflection). I wonder if it makes any difference at that speed.........
Probably not, but just a thought!

Interestingly I tested this theory, not literally, but legally for a view point of laser guns versus the same TVRs. I'm reliable informed that laser will get you ever time even though the car has no flat surface apart from a number plate 120mm off the ground. Bloody coppers are "sharp" shooters eh?!

Maybe someone on here can solve this 'urban myth.' Does anyone know what the cut-off speed for gatso is?
Oh and Carl, you are a nutter!

Can only continue the urban myth , that this is why most hi-specced European Cars are governed to 155 so that they will still be caught by the revenue earners.
