I live in Manchester but travel out to the surrounding towns of South Manchester quite a bit. I have noticed some strange blue lamp post sized things with what look to have a form of camera on them? Has anyone got any idea what these are, i have been told they are something to do with mobile phones. Not sure if i believe this and always fluff my pants when i go speeding past them.

Can anybody help?

Trafficmaster sensors. Nothing to worry about.

To expand on that a bit, the blue cameras are indeed owned and run by traffic master. They are used to count and monitor traffic density.

So if you've got a trafficmaster "widget" it will advise you of the expected delays.

If you remember to take it with you. I left mine at home yesterday and regretted it instantly.

I've got the little one with the flashing lights but its batteries keep dropping out for some reason! I bought one of the big ones with the road display on too - that's good fun, but a bit distracting while driving. You need a passenger really - or better still, someone else to drive while you play with the Trafficmaster!

Batteries have a habit of departing from mine too!

Trick is to get a "sticky fixer" thing and put it on the back of the battery compartment - or even a few layers of electrical tape - the right amount will hold the batterys in quite firmly...
