As title states, I was caught by a van doing roughly 80 on dual carriageway. What can I expect to receive? Thanks.

3 points and a Fixed Penalty fine unless eligible for speed awareness course.

How “roughly”?
Isn’t 78 the top end of what you get away with?

Driver awareness course if you’ve not done one in the last three years.

Otherwise £100 fine and three points (assuming you less than nine points already).

Speedy replies (pardon the pun), thanks. I currently have 3pts but never done a speed awareness course.

Isn't the speed limit for a van on a dual carriageway 60 mph, may have different consequences?

I was a driving a car but caught by a police van (I'm assuming).

I’m a sample of one (obviously) but I got a speed awareness course for 82 mph (North Yorkshire).

Assuming the Dual Carriageway was NSL and there was no temporary limit in force, then you should be offered a course if eligible

This is correct. My police force uses the same figures/limits as this.

How do you know you were caught? You can't have received a ticket yet as you don't know the speed.

The van might not have been recording your side of the road or any side.

An indicated 80 on the Speedo is probably 76mph

79 MPH is the limit on scammy vans in most areas, IF you had a Dash cam you would know exactly how fast you were traveling, many speedo's show more speed than your doing so you could be lucky. IF you have not received an NIP.

Correct, unless it was in Scotland in which case no option for a SAC.

I'm a member of Northallerton Advanced Motorists (IAM), and we had a presentation one night by North Yorkshire Police's Road Safety Team.
They said that NYP has a 10% + 2mph tolerance, so 79mph is the max that you might get away with.
