A couple of weeks ago I was travelling home on the M62 from manchester at about 1 in the morning. It was a clear, dry night and the old right foot was feeling a bit heavy. Not many people around. I was making good progress and checking slip roads in the rear view mirror for lurking coppers. When I next look, I can see way behind me a pair of bright white headlights. I decided to slow a little to about 90 but after about a minute, thought, they're not catching up, no blues, might not be plod after all so pressed the pedal again. Then the lights started to get rapidly closer. My speed has dropped down to 70 by the time the blues come on right behind. So I'm pulled over, get out and am invited to get in the police car.
Copper - do you know the speed limit on a motorway?
Me - yes, 70mph
Copper - can you explain why your average speed just there was 92.2 mph.
Me ( thinking of what various police phers have advised if pulled ie, they've heard it all before ) - you got me, red handed, no excuse. I want to get home, thought it was safe to go a bit faster as its a clear road, no traffic and dry. Sorry.
Copper - Have you got any points?
Me - no ( thinking I will have now )
Copper - do you want any?
Me - err, no.
Copper - Buzz off, slow down and don't let me see you again!

Result - yeah so I stuck to 70 after that all the way home, glad to have met a copper who was Ok, and grateful to this site for stopping me give a load of lame excuses. Consider myself very lucky this time

A good ending to that story, nice to hear of some decent types out there..
