Aren't safety cameras wonderful ??
Discussion
Our local BBC news tonight ran a feature on a speed camera on the A38 at Whitminster, Gloucestershire that had recently been "dealt with." Clearly the reporter had missed his vocation in CID, as the camera panned to the deck to reveal the remains of a 185HR/15 or similar and scorch marks - "clearly, this was no accident .." ran the intuitive commentary.
Then, to show that this was not unique, a quick shot of a camera in Kingshill, Dursley, which we were told: "Within a few days of this camera being installed, someone had sprayed it with black paint and taken a hammer to the lens."
The inevitable followed - bloke in high-visibility jacket standing in front of his white van with the logo "Safety Camera Unit," looking pleadingly to his auduence:
"I wish people would realise that these cameras aren't there for income generation, they are there for safety reasons only."
I can think of one or two "revenue earners" kicking around the place in other parts of the "Points West" area, and I suspect that some of you can too. One particular beauty is on the A37 just south of Shepton Mallet. Perfectly straight road, steep hill going down into a valley and straight back up the other side, NSL applies, camera right at the bottom of the gradient and hidden behind a road sign.
Just to help the BBC in their quest for accurate and balanced reporting, Why not let them know about the revenue earners you have come across. Contact e-mail address is bristol@bbc.co.uk
PS: don't forget to post 'em here as well!!
