I don’t want to start another pro/anti mask debate, there’s been a few of those.

I’ve passed a few mainly smaller shops and cafes with signage saying you cannot enter without a mask, no exceptions. Does this contravene disability laws?

Legally, I have no idea.
Reality, just ignore it, with the exception of a few jobsworths no body gives a st.

I have now noticed the opposite happening, I've been told to take my mask off twice in the last week. Once in a local bakery, once in a motor trade premises.

I don't mind wearing one, but it seems a lot of places are pushing back against them now.

I don't think it is legal but it would presumably need someone to test it?

I'd just vote with my feet and shop somewhere with less bigoted views. Whether I was a mask wearer or not.

They cannot not admit you if you have genuine ground like an illness such a asthma or COPD. I was with a friend and we were denied access in a pub on Friday. We both have COPD and have proof of it in the way of a prescription slip and medication.

It is an offense under the Equality Act, just the same as a blind person being not allowed in because he has a guide dog.

In this case we just went to the pub next door who were understanding and supportive. We reported the issue to the brewery as the license holder was not interested. Whether it is followed up is another matter.. just vote with your feet and go elsewhere.

That’s exactly what I did but I wondered if the local authority or anyone else enforces such laws.

I say the local authority as they seem to police our local pubs to ensure Covid compliance.

Politely advising you that you do not need to wear a mask if you do not wish to, is one thing.

Being told to take your mask off, in a bakery or motor trade premises (or elsewhere), is something completely different (and would be responded to with a: "F**k You!" and single finger salute as I walked out)

If you feel unsafe in public without a mask on, with the exception of an identification check for security, no one should have the right to tell you to remove your mask!

Almost as though the best policy would be to allow everyone their own freedom of choice, isn’t it?

I was refused service in a small bar the other night as I walked the 3ft from the open door to the table my two friends were already sat at just inside the door. No one else in the bar.

So you feel unsafe in public without a mask on, yet you feel safe enough to say F**k You to someone and give them the finger? Odd logic!

The equality act asks you to make reasonable adaptations, but the health and safety at work act also obliges you to keep your staff safe.

There is no reasonable adaption that can be made that guarantees safety, so I would see that a reasonable argument can be made that an inconvenience to one can’t really trump the threat to health of others.

But then I really fail to see how someone can’t wear a face covering of some description, it doesn’t need to be a mask, just a face covering.

What if someone can’t wear one because of legitimate psychological/traumatic reasons?

Most people with asthma or copd will be fine

From BLF

most people with a lung condition will be fine wearing a face covering.

some people will find wearing one uncomfortable but can get used to it with practice. Face coverings are not harmful to people wearing them

a few people with a lung condition will find that face masks increase their sensation of breathlessness to the extent they can’t tolerate wearing one.

Before lockdown a friend developed alopecia. He was quite embarrassed about it, so started wearing a cap everywhere. Many pubs would refuse him entry unless he took it off. Those same pubs now won't let him in unless he has a mask covering half his face. I'm not anti-mask, but I will be so glad when this is all over.

I’m almost deaf and rely on lip reading to communicate. So you can imagine how frustrating it is for me.
Why these “meeters, greeters and hosts” don’t have clear face shields beets me?
Also many places are obsessed with technology. Download the app, click the QR code for test and trace etc. There are people in this world who do not have a smart phone.
All I have is a basic pay as you go phone for texting. When I arrived at a major pub chain place for a pint the person at the desk said if you don’t have a smart phone you can’t come in.
After a conversation about discriminating deaf and disabled people, I got my pint.

I saw those signs in the smaller villages in the lakes. We just didn't go in. Didn't like the attitude.

Most places are chilled now but my local pub are super overzealous . I don't go there any more and I was a daily visitor before.

I'm in the South West and the covid map is almost entirely yellow/white. You have more chance of getting run over, and yet, they all march along in their masks, in the street, in their cars. It's depressing.

Masks in cars get me. Fair enough in a taxi, or if you are giving someone a lift, ok if it's not your car, but I've seen people in their own cars, on their own, wearing a mask. Would you not just run a Dettol wipe over the inside instead if you were that bothered ? I regularly see a chap go past our house in his convertible, with the roof down, wearing a mask. It's just odd.

I can only assume they are being super vigilant and only touching their mask twice. One on and once off.

Guy at Sainsbury's yesterday was wiping every inch of his trolley with anti bac wipes. It certainly brings out extremes in some folk.

I do wonder if a lot of folk use only the papers they read as their source of covid data ( I. E panic headlines) . If you look at the gov covid map for here you can see that at present , it has literally, gone. All of the South West with a few very small exceptions. But the daily Mail headline is still "the end is nigh"
