Today driving along the A446 near the Belfry the police was sitting in one of these so called "Safety Camera Vans" targeting motorist on a completely open stretch of road with no junction joining it..

I can only think that this was purely aimed at raising money as there was no safety risks that sprung to my mind in them being there.. You never have a hand grenade when you need one.

Last Saturday morning the police had a laser gun speed trap on the Birmingham Ring road by Halford Motor store on Watery Lane Middleway. Targeting shoppers doing 5x miles an hour over the limit. Most of the ring road ether side of this bit of road is 40mph, now there is no sign on this stretch of road so it means that the speed drops to 30mph, but you still think that you are in a 40mph limit....

Now on a Saturday night you have 300 or so Max Power type lad and there car racing around this and other parts of the ring road and the police don't seem to bother that much.. After a while the send out a few car and just block off parts of the ring road. Never seen them doing speed traps during the road races. Now that what I was call using speed cameras for safety sake.. When I drive out on a Sunday morning there is always a few car stuffed in to lamp posts and the alikes.

I was almost ran of the road by some lad in a Fiesta last weekend in the mayhem as I can home.

Where is the logic in when the police target motorists for the better good of the publics safety.

Last week I had a visited by a very pleasant police officer at my home in connection with my line of work. Nothing very interesting they but the conversation turned around to different topics and speeding was one of them.

He made a very interesting comment which went along the line of: I have said to some of the other officers including some of the traffic mob, that if you keep having such a strict line and targeting motorist in this way the public is going to have a different view of the police and when we get some one in court these people (An average man in the street or motorist) will be sitting on jury service (having been a victim of a heavy handed speed trap campaign) and give a not guilty verdict in some cases in the light of their experiences..

I am still to see a speed trap outside a school at home time!!!

Is there any shows or activities on nearby that would attract visitors to the area. I have seen travelling to a few events outside my local area that they set up the cameras to catch the 'passing trade'.

The reasons are normally to promote safe and aware driving for people not used to the surroundings , which can be read as milking the unsuspecting.

Nonesense, I am sure the traffic police are very pleased that they saved many lives just by hiding behind a bush and sending out a ticket. I mean, surely as speed kills and is of course the only reason an accident occurs each person caught should have crashed on the way home.

The Police have already alienated me in the past, not through speeding, but I am fairly sure an awful lot of people who would have helped the police in the past will remember their three points and decide the cops can whistle for help. Not good for society, but blame the Home Office for setting targets rather than actually trying to combat crime
