hi there around the end of april last year i was caught speeding twice within five days (didnt know anything about it as i hadnt recieved anything then) i was caught doing 53 & 56 respectively in a 30 mph now before you say twat the road on which i was caught is a four lane road no in a built up area and is practically straight, its very well known in newport (cardiff road) after investigating this myself as i had no recollection of any speed signs found that they had all been covered up with black plastic bags??, i checked with the local paper (as i remembered there being a piece on it) and they had been covered up for a traffic speed survey which was supposed to finish on april the 6th (i got caught on april 25 and april 30) but obviously the bags were still there whats more is the fact that i believe there may have been some errors committed by the LTI 2020 operators as they were behind a wall so i would have to drive away from them (therefore they couldnt see me, so they couldnt then use the LTI to confirm their suspicions) they also didnt use it for a particular lane they crossed the laser over 3 lanes (couldnt that change the readout if a car or other vehicle went past?)and they will not confirm that they had prior to using the device calibrated it on a thin, stationary object ( i ride a bike) they will not confirm the scope alignment check (the daily checks not the annual calibration) and they also will not confirm if a police vehicle with a calibrated speedo was driven towards the device ( and driven away from the device if used in that direction) i am very worried as i will have to retest (i am a new rider 6 pts in 2 years = retest i hadnt even been down that road before ) and i will in all likely hood lose my job (i live in newport and work in bristol) is there anything i can do

If u think you've got a case, run those observations past a lawyer. Were there streetlamps on the road (I believe that streetlamps indicate 30mph unless posted otherwise, so even if they were bagged there is an applicable speed limit)

Be prepard to take another test, it wasn't that hard! I've only been riding for 18 months, but I've been driving 22 years, and I'd hate to take that test again!

Best of luck with it.

Few queries about the signage. Were the 30s on show as you entered the restricted zone ?
( Not familiar with that side on Newport, always go in from the other )
Are there streetlights ?

Cops don't have to tell you anything about calibration etc. If you want to call their bluff, can only force the issue in court. If you're going to do this, get a brief. There are certain procedural technicalities to put the CPS on notice that accuracy and operation of a a prescribed device will be at issue.

Afraid losing job is not a consideration for new drivers. If likely DQ there is scope to argue to retain your licence, New Drivers Act is an admin procedure with no right to challenge the revocation of your licence by Secretary of State. Might be able to make a case for accepting endorsement with no points on the second offence, but need a huge amount more info and heavily suggest a brief to prepare and present it.

If all else fails, look on the bright side, pushbikes are free on the Severn crossing as well !!!

Dharrison: Welcome to Pistonheads.com..

I take it, from the guarded and anticipatory tone of your initial post, that you've had a good read around the board...

Well I reckon you're an irresponsible, dangerous, inconsiderate w*nker.

No, really I don't.. from your fairly scrupulous account, I reckon you're being stitched right up and I hope you walk away scot free.

Like the man said, find a good lawyer and run it past him.

Let us know what happens?

Dharrison. I don't quite understand your post.

Are you suggesting that the speed limit is normally 50 but had been reduced to 30 as a result of the 50mph repeaters being covered in bags?

no apparently is is a 30mph road but the signs (repeater signs are no longer used in wales??) were covered up to conduct a traffic speed survey that was supposed to finish on 06.04.02

Is the signage for entering the area 30's , and is this the spot that they have now installed a Gatso - therefore the survey was probably to see if the revenue earned would pay for a Gatso installation.

I don't beleive they can actually use 2 guns to read as one may interfere with the other?

Unless they were used one after another?
