Yes folks, Essex Police aka Keystone Cops are at it again!
Where were they today? Catching muggers, rapists, burgalars, peadophiles, car jackers or murderers? - No!
No the Keystone Cops are having a clampdown on speeding. Not outside schools, colleges, town centres or residential areas though, but instead they were on an empty fast stretch of the M11 near the Suffolk border.
They have 2 cameras set up on tripods while they sit on their fat arses in a marked Mercedes estate car a couple of miles up the road. This stinks of lazy, Friday afternoon slacker sindrome.
For the past week or two they have sat there in a big white van with the tripods, but obviously people see the van to early for them to be able to 'nick' anyone, so they have resorted to sneaky, slimey, tactics designed to 'entrap' the general public.
Clearly my income tax is being misused to fund this irresponsible waste of public money, and yet no doubt at the end of the year they will roll out some statistic with more spin applied to it than fact to justify their waste-of-time jobs.
It is this sort of policy which leaves the Police open to ridicule and public jeering. I live in Essex, and in the past have had reason to report local crime, but they just don't seem to give a toss!

Sorry for the rant Ted, but I felt that it needed to be said.

The money would be better spent re-surfacing that stretch !

What ever happened to go old fashioned policing ?

Thanks for the tip off - am planning to use the M11 tomorrow. Annoys me that I have only ever seen a mobile camera once in my village in 10 years yet in that time we have had FIVE incidents where cars have ended up in someones house/garden. How long until someone gets killed. I also listen to Essex Radio on the way to work and they give the location of the mobile cameras - they are always in the South of the county.

These 2 cameras on their tripods, are they unmanned now then?

Take their toys away and they'll have to resort to proper methods to catch speeders.

Surely you mean A11? The M11 doesn't go into Suffolk.

Definitely M11 Essex section, about 2 miles before you get to the junction for Saffron Walden, Newmarket, etc..(A11 or A14?). I'm sure you just touch on the edge of Suffolk for a short period of time between Essex and Cambridgeshire.
I have also seen the van on the bridige up around Duxford though.

Don't forget to approach from the blind side - being cameras, they can probably see and record either the number plate of the vehicle that 'accidentally' smashes into them... or the back of trefor's head after he's chucked 'em in the back of his car.

So are they video cameras then?
If they are placed at the roadside, what is Plod doing up the road? must be video monitoring. That isn't admissible in court.
Stop by camera, smash it up with tyre brace, drive off. What proof they got?
