I seem to recall from somewhere that repeater signs have to appear at minimum distance intervals in 40 and 50 limited areas. Does anybody have any information on this topic and, if so, what the minimum distances are?

Also a closely-related issue - if some of the repeater signs were to mysteriously go missing (you know what juvenile delinquents sometimes get up to .....), then would this invalidate the limit and form the basis of a valid defence in court?

It appears that all you might need is a 14mm or 15mm spanner and possibly a mallet...

Interesting (in a sad way) point I just noticed. Why are atreet lights a max of 185m apart in scotland but 183m anywhere else? Is this a cost saving measure?

Isn't it the case that if the street lights are a certain distance apart, with no repeaters for 40, 50 or NSL, then it is by default a 30 limit?

Seem to remember years ago (1970's) being told that you could tell the speed limit by the distance between lamp posts. How true it is I don't know, but they were supposedly further apart in a 40 than a 30. The amount of speed limit changes these days though, I doubt it still applies.

mcecm, 183m is 200 yards, rounded up to the nearest metre. 185m is 200yards, rounded up to the nearest 5m. That MAY have something to do with it... maybe.

I don't think so no. Speeding is a offence where you don't have to Know you are speeding (If memory serves)
