Hey, chaps, where's the thread about the licence plate, with the switch to make the plate go blank - it's LCD trickery - it sounds like a worthwhile investment for some.....(not me obviously, officer!)

Would this not be construed by Plod as Perverting the Course of Revenue Raising ?(Oops, of course I mean Justice)

Not 100% sure, but in my opion: In Law it is an offence to alter, rearrange or misrepresent letters or numbers on a car number plate (max.£1000 fine). However as the device in question goes over the plate and doesnt alter the plate itself its unlikley you could be prosecuted for this.

If you were caught on a GATSO then your probably safe as if camera cant read plate the car cant be traced!Use the device in the presence of the police and you could probably be done for "perverting course of justice", or at least be told to remove then and given a producer.

I always thought you could get done for 'intent to deceive', max fine £5000.

Only if you actually show a false plate. If you fail to show one at all it comes under this far less severe heading. As the law is worded, you can obscure the plate with mud or with privplate the law makes no distinction. This is to give some slack to unfortunates who's plates could be damaged from a recent accident, driven thru a muddy field etc..
