I opened my front door this morning and admired my new Pistonheads.com sticker sitting proudly at the bottom of my Windscreen.

It was only after a while that I wondered whether having "Speed Matters" plastered across the front of my car may have an adverse affect if I was ever stopped for speeding.

Anyone got any thoughts or experience of this (especially the enlightend Boys in Blue on the site)? Is there a Window sticker without speed matters written on it?

I love the phrase and the site but don't want to give Plod any encoragement - they are keen enough where I live anyway (North Essex).

I think the act of owning a fast car says "speed matters" fairley blantently, so I doubt the sticker will cause any problems.

You could always try and persuade the officer that it was the drug you are interested in, and would never consider driving fast ?!?!

It's never caused me any problems having rather large SPEED MATTERS stickers on my car. Had a few funny looks from plod in traffic

Besides, it just shows that you're aware of the issue of speed more than your average numpty.

Mrs. Imelda had the same concerns, but my attitude is bugger 'em. It's not illegal (yet ) to display a PH sticker or two on your car, and if that antagonises someone, it's their problem for being so petty.

Don't let the bastards grind you down!

Absolutely.. if I'm tearing around the countryside and get pulled over, it's not because the copper spotted my PH sticker.. it's because I was driving like a twat..

If I'm polite, deferential and don't give the copper any shit, I'll be fine.. your demeanour if stopped will have much more bearing than your sticker...

On the other hand, you see people with a sticker saying "Hows my driving? 1-800-EAT-SHIT"... now if they don't get a copper's back up I'll be amazed - they're the sort of people every competent driver should either avoid like the plague or run off the road in the interests of moron culling .

I'll shortly have it plastered all over my Mini, don't think it'll be possible to beat the 17 stops in one night my brother used to manage when he had the car

I think "FTP-uk" was offensive, but the PH one is cool. If anyone checks the site, atleast it promotes responsible driving.

Sorry, did I mention Golf?

Good job that's a question rather than a statement.

there was a bike gang with this on their leathers. They all got nicked in the end. I may not always see eye to eye with the BiB, but respect is due for a sometimes hard job.

I see, so you are reading it as speed being important, I had just assumed it meant that the web site covered the subject of speed

PS - just remember what Ted told me once, "Speed Matters, but pies matter more!"

I'd rather be able to buy a Pistonheads sticker that said "Pistonheads: Do Think and Drive" or something that conveys a more positive impression after you've been stopped... or even "Speed + Brain = Good".

"Speed Matters" works two ways... if you get pulled by Plod... "yes officer, speed DOES matter... you shouldn't drive over the limit..."

The old (MG??) slogan "Safety Fast" was kind of cool.

I don't think it should matter what stickers you have - a professional like a copper ought not be influenced by such things.

Number plate slogans are good, but I wouldn't want to incriminate myself - just imagine being pulled and they look up your profile...?!!!!!!
