My son has a VW golf 14 plate, he purchased the car I'm March, the last car he had the garage would text him prior to the mot.
But today the garage he purchased the car from informed him that the " mot is past and due"
Car is fine etc, he knows it was his responsibility can he wait till Saturday what is the law, if a car is roadworthy but something like this happens.
Back in the 80s I was stopped the mot was out of date, then police looked at the car and all was in order I was told " get it done"which I did.
His car, tyres, breaks and all that goes with a MOT is correct,he does not want to miss work but has read there is a £2500 fine and the insurance would be invalid, he did forget and not intentional.
Thanks in advance

The above posters are correct. Plus it's 'brakes' not 'breaks' by the way.

Also great sub-forum choice.

Yes he getting it done tomorrow, itbwould have been better if the "ford garrage" would have informed him prior to the mot running out.
The garage we all use text us, but then "lesson learnt"

There are also literally loads of apps which will do it for you too. Why rely on a third-party to text you when you could sort it yourself easily?

I'm sure the young lad will have learnt his lesson.

As others have said he can't drive the car except to a pre-book mot appointment. Driving it risks invalidating insurance, 6 points, and a fine for not having the MOT.

I would get a bus or taxi to work.

Many MOT garages will put a sticker with the reminder date in the top corner of the windshield (unswept area of course - otherwise probably be an MOT fail!)

The non endorsable £100 fine shows it's the lowest if the low motoring offence.

No excuse but I had three cars and forgot about one until the tax came due and I couldn't get it due to my mot expiring, this was October mot had expired in April! Got the mot done taxed it all good.

Just get it done asap, I would comfortably drive it expired if I had a test booked in the next few days.

Some really dodgy solicitors about.

My mate runs a garage and has been waiting 3 years for money for work done to a range rover owned by a lawyer. (Complete engine rebuild)

I just came on this thread to post about realising that my MOT expired in March, in july... a d nothing happened in the interim.

However, it reminded me to check my car tax.... which expired at the beginning of September!

FFS. What a knob! All now sorted!

Thanks OP

Appears I was misinformed.

I would still not drive it without an MOT anyway.
