Speed is not the biggest killer
Discussion
With all the ranting on about speed kills blah blah blah you would think it was the main cause of everything, Ive just been on Dorset police's website and found this.
"Dorset has 2601 miles of roads. Trunk roads account for 62 miles and 'A' class roads 232. The remainder is made up of 'B', 'C' and 'D' class roads. The population of Dorset is approximately 391,000 people, who own and use around 400,000 vehicles."
I think they need a calculator to work that out again unless the kiddies drive as well
But mainly this
"Driver error is consistently the main causation for roughly 80% of all injury collisions and speed for 20%. Drink and drugs driving accounts for approximately 4% of all injury collisions."
so there you have it numpty not concentrating type driving kills NOT speeding , well down here at least .
Motorcyclists
"We plan to hold "meet the biker" events on the roadside where officers will invite riders to stop, have a rest and refreshment at roadside locations "
And check over the bike for illegal zorsts numper plates dark visors

Awwrr aint that nice of them.... maybe they'll extend this initiative to sportscar drivers as well, as i can tell you maintaining 140mph on roads only designed for 40/50 mph is hellish thirsy work.
Dorset Police do not know the truth. Ask the Govt. Speeding accounts for more deaths than drinking n driving, murder, natural death, ciggies and alchohol all put together.
At least you'd think it given the rather Nazi-type propaganda the Govt employ. Worst thing is quite a few numpties believe it too, so they think they are good drivers whilst talking on the mobile, preening, reading a paper just as long as they are not speeding.

The numbers could be write, I live in Dorset and currently run 3 cars, lucky for them with the state of the roads down here I only drive one at a time, despite the others sitting on my driveway with tax discs on them.
No way speed is biggest killer anyway, as a percentage of the population, all road fatalaties are tiny 3,500. More people die from accidents in the home approx 4,500, and way more from heart disease. It makes me wonder how many of the 3,500 are caused by people having heart failure.

So thats 104% then! Great. Why don't the idiots just take it to its logical conclusion andn claim speeding is responsible for more deaths than the entire cumulitve population of the planet since the beginning of time? Then we could all drive home very quickly indeed safe in the knowlege that we are all dead anyway.

So why spend loadsamoney on so-called 'safety' cameras when the money would be better spent on training if the intention was to make roads safer? The answer is of course - there's more money to be gained in trapping speeding motorists.
When was the last time anyone was pulled over and given credit for good driving or advised on how to improve their driving? !!!

You miss the point. Speed is not the cause of most accidents. However higher speeds are contributory to more serious injuries when collisions occur. That is why speeds are regulated.
In which case as survivablity has increased the speed limit should have increased. Remember the Ford Anglia? Wel 30mph impact woud have almost always been fatal. It is now possible to create cars capable of 200 mph impacts leaving survival spaces clear.

You mean, we used to kill 6000 people per year, so now its down to 3500, we should up the speed lmits until we get it back up to 6000 again?
Don't forget to take into account the increased numbers of road users so the 6,000 should be extrapolated to maybe 12,000 (I don't have the figures necessary to calculate an accurate figure)
quote:Ahhh, the government policy on tax cameras is now explained - keep adding more cameras until enough people are killed by numpties braking for them

People aren't killed braking to avoid the speed camera they have not seen because they are not concentrating. They are killed because they are travelling too close to the numptie in front who hasn't seen the speed camera until too late and they themselves have not seen it either, I suppose you could say that people are killed because they are numpties

So if all the numpties are killed eventually we will evolve a species of better drivers therefore we should abandon all speed limits and road traffic laws, eventually all raod accidents will be eradicated
