Has anyone else heard about these new cameras ? Apparently they are triggered at 71 MPH and above, and are located at very many stretches of several motorways.

If that were true, I would be amazed.
At the moment, it's still 10% + 2mph.

This followed press last week and statements by Chief Constable Bangham (to rights) - https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/road-p...

I doubt we have changed from following ACPO guidelines, but strangely Derby & Leicestershire Police have both ignored my tweet asking them....
Have resent, adding Northants Police. Wonder if I will get the whole of the UK Police Force joined in before getting a reply!!

As much as i'll hate this as much as most other drivers, i do wonder why it's taken them so long to do this!?

With all the comms etc that they've put in for the gantries and smart motorways, the infrastructure is there.

The cameras themselves would soon be fully paid for i reckon.

Definitely spotted the two Gatso-like flashes on the Northbound carriageway of M1 near the M6 / A14 junction last evening. I was Southbound, but have just checked my rearward facing 'dashcam' to confirm my impression that there had been no speed limit roundels on the gantries.

These are on the M62 around Leeds. They’re very easy to spot and they’re active even when there’s no speed limit shown. Seen a couple of people getting flashed by them, although they I’d say they were doing 85mph plus.

I’ve gone through at around 75 indicated and had no issues.

As someone who traverses the country every week for work, I notice the camera changes and the latest additions are to the support poles of the over motorway gantrys. These are triggered when the variable speed limit shown on the gantry is broken.

There used to be only cameras behind some of the matrix showing the limit, but they have now moved them to the support column so not so visible. These are also on the fly out warning signs.
