From BBC News:

A motorist clocked driving at 25mph in the fast lane of the M1 has been told by a judge to put his foot down in future.
Portuguese national Jose Real had been in England just three months when he was pulled over by police in Leicestershire.

He later told them it was his first time on a motorway and he was overwhelmed by the British road system.

Real, from Wembley in Middlesex, admitted driving carelessly between junctions 21 and 22 at a hearing at Leicester Crown Court on Monday.

He was fined £165 and given six points on his licence.

Sorted! Hopefully this will set the plod onto a "lane discipline" crackdown...

Am I the only one who finds the fact he made it that far north at 25 mph a little scary?

25 mph is quite a lick of speed on much of the M1

Still, nice to see El Numptio picked up a nice bucket of points and a fine..

Its been a while since I've seen a mandatory minimum speed sign. Have they been phased out?

I dont think I have ever seen one in the UK . Thats not to say they dont exist, I have just never seen one. They should be about because the amount of people you see doing less than 40 on a free flowing motorway is quite shocking.

Matt.

Perhaps they just exist in the pages of the Highway Code, now!

There used to be some in the Blackwall tunnel, don’t know if they are still there, I never worry about minimum limits

There certainly used to be one at the entrance to the Birkenhead tunnel. It was 21 mph, rather bizarrely.
