The Kustom LaserPro video speedtrap, used in the UK, has been called into question in South Africa following the discovery of a rather serious flaw. It would appear that the target distance can easily superimposed as the target speed on the video evidence and there is no way of telling the what the recorded figure is actually indicating (e.g 200 meters or 200 kmh). Even the manufacturers admit there is a problem following allegations that there may be incidences where evidence from this equipment may have been deliberately manipulated. Read all here:

Makes you wonder what goes on inside those civilian-manned Talivans.

Good find, very interesting. Hopefully a ground for a challange in our courts.

AFAIK most UK laser guns are LTI 20-20's not Kustom Pro's. I stopped for a chat once with one of the Northants SCAMera van operatives. He had an LTI gun. I'm not 100% sure, but from what I could see, their photo production system seems to work differently from that described in the South African article. So unfortunately I don't think there's much scope for using this concept against UK speeding prosecutions unless some areas are using the same kit as they do in SA. Does anybody know of anywhere in the UK using Kustom Pro guns and photographic systems?

The Kustom LaserPro has full UK Type Approval and is in service in this country:

According to Steve Warren's site it is one of the four most widely used laser speed trap devices in the UK.
