Camera Survey

The Autocar Survey - what does it prove? Government revenue conspiracy or Government hasn't a clue conspiracy...?

Shame they didn't focus on KSI accidents caused by excessive speed, when the speed was over the posted limit. I suspect this would have made the hypocrisy even more obvious.

Hmmmm

Time to send a copy of this report to my MP and ask for his comments. In particular his comments on the proposed new "points system".

Press release is a bit misleading. Anyone driven the A9 Latheron to Wick ? Few of these accidents are excess speed related, more likely cars taking bends on the wrong of the road, or overtaking tractors. Don't get me wrong, stretches are ideal for speed. There is a big stretch about 4-5 miles south of Wick dead straight for about 1.8 miles coming off some easy bends, no police hiding spots, and smooth as you can dreanm. Anything with poke can easily double the limit and more along it. But few accidents there.

Think it was FHM did a report on them some years ago, they are often perfectly empty and safe. Its why many of the big car companies go there; Mercedes, Rolls Royce, Volkswagen, also TV companies.

What is that say about statistics can be made to say anything ?

I *cannot* believe the accidents column is 'number of accidents'. Certainly the 'most dangerous road' is wrong. If the figure is something like 'number of accidents per million cars' then it might be right, since that road gets relatively light traffic, and has had a few prangs, largely cos its the middle of nowhere, got some tight bends, and a lousy road surface. But 'number of accidents' - no way.

I agree with some of above, misleading info here I think.
KSI and PI figures are more usefull, and certainly the only ones that traffic/safety engineers and Police would refer to.
Not all accidents are due to speed anyway, only about 30% I believe, more due to bad driving!! though speed reduction is the easiest to implement according to the Gov I think.

Speed cameras on the M25 are nothing to do with safety and everything to do with improving traffic flow, so shouldn't be included either.

Also the table doesn't say over what period the stats are taken, or the accident figures for the same period before the speed cameras were in place.

Actual figure for accidents caused by speed only is around 7%, the other 23% are accidents where speed is a contributory factor.
