Someone on another thread was asking how long points remained on your licence. How come the robbing b"£^*&$* insurance companies ask you if you have had any motoring convictions over the last 5 years.
It seems you pay via the law for 3 years, but continue to be hit in the pocket for a further 2 years. Would you be within your rights to not declare any points to your insurance if they had expired on your licence (but less than 5 yrs old)?

NO.

They know everything.

Don't do it.

It'll void any claim.

Still - pubs are open!!

no they don't have that right. Once 4 years is up, IMHO) the rehabilitation of offenders act says something about past misdemeanors not being recognised...

However I seem to remember that the insurance companies have not yet been challenged in court about it. Would you want to be the individual known throughout the entire UK insurance industry for increasing their risk profile?

Under the rehab act, an offense which is punished by a fine becomes spent after 5 years, so the insurance companies are within their rights.

If you got disqualified too, the period is the maximum of the 5 years and the length of the ban - so if you were banned for 7 years, your rehab period would be 7 years.
